Though not open during my visit, the church stands at the center of this quaint friendly town. The two main streets of Roros pass by this church.

This delightful church was built at the height of the copper mining boom in 1786 and no trip to For us would be complete without visiting it

Such a cute cosy little town for winter. Though I didn't go into this church, ridding past this in a spark has been a wonderful experience. What a charming building!

This town and church is an amazing place, with buildings dated back to 1650ties. It has been a famous copper mine town. Also the coldest place in Norway during the winter. Very quaint.

Visible from almost every spot in town you cannot miss this church. Because of excellent restoration works done 3 years ago the church is in excellent condition. Information leaflets in multiple languages available. Unfortunately like everything in Norway you need to pay a significant amount to get in to the church.

Nice to see. Good guiding. Old church with much history. Can be seen as a bonus to a short guiding through Røros town. Worth reading about the history if on your own.

Built in 1784 at the height of the copper industry and on the highest point in town. Surprisingly large for such a small village - it seats over 1600. If you look just above the clock on each side of the church tower you will see two crossed hammers with the symbol for copper between them. It is very white and simple inside, with box pews and an upper gallery. The altar and organ are rather elaborate in comparison to the rest of the church. There is an entry fee of about 25kr.

4. Røros – guided walking tour in a historic copper-mining townThis charming historic copper-mining town is one of Norway’s most beautiful villages. Don’t miss a guided walking tours, that take you through the historic town centre. Hear the mining history and the story of Røros’ Lutheran church – one of Norway’s largest with a seating capacity of 1640. Røros Kirke was owned by Copper Works (a mining company) and this is reflected in the church art. Notice the company’s symbol on all sides of the tower. Just imagine if Shell funded a construction of some church these days, and placed their logo on church’s tower:)

Well worth visiting, if it's open! Built of stone and quite decorated (baroque almost); its construction was financed privately and reflects the town's past.

The church is so nice. But the best about it is the history of the church and the wunderbare menschen that are doing the exhibits there. Local souls keeps this place alive and tourist friendly. Have a look - have a blast!

The Røros church was bulit during the best years of the cooper industry in Røros, in the period 1780-1784. The church has seating for 1 600 persons making it the fifth largest in Norway. Make sure that you visit this church when in Røros, always open on Saturdays or join the sevrice on most Sundays.

We went to the church with a guide and got a good look into the history behind this historic landmark. Fantastic!

Røros, Norway is a UNESCO Heritage Site, and thank goodness for that. This small town, about halfway up Norway is full of charm and history. Just walking up and down the main shopping street is not only good exercise (something the Norwegians really enjoy), but a scenic delight. Many old building, some with their original grass covered roofs are still intact and/or restored, and they are painted in a surprising array of colors. . . think 'the Caribbean' or 'Mediterranean coast'. The unusual white and green Røros Church sits at the top of this street. When I visited in the summer of 2010 it was closed for renovations which are probably complete by now. However, the small cemetery surrounding the church was very interesting, and I also found a small road that lead up to a larger cemetery in back of the church which sits up on a hill and offers spectacular vistas of not only the church, but of all of Røros and the valley where it sits.

You have to include this church on any visit to Roros. It is at the heart of the town and has history in every corner.

Stor og vakker kirke med god utsikt over sentrum av Røros. Dessverre var det stengt når jeg hadde tenkt meg inn, har imidlertid vært inne i den tidligere.
