I'm no oenophile, but this was a rather nice tour of the winery for ten Euros! After extensive explanations of history and a tour of the barrels, we went up to a tasting room where we were shown a short video, with moody music, in which we were walked through the tastings of three Marsalas and three food samples (2 cheeses and a cheese spread). It was lots of fun and I don't even really drink alcohol!

Extremely informative. Great wine. We had our group of 52 with lunch included. Wine flowed freely and the lunch was outstanding. Great atmosphere, food, and tour guide/hosts! Very highly recommend.

We enjoyed our tour of the winery and liked the historical information about Italy and the winery. It was a fun few hours. The video that is played while tasting the wine is a bit too dramatic but didn't take away from the wine tasting. A nice gift shop too with some original items to take home.

Despite the fact that I have reserved a degustation in English, it was in Italian (due to illness of the main English-speaking guide); hence I guess I have missed a lot in the intro to Marsala wine history, as my Italian is not good. However, if you read the history in advance or get a chance to be a part of English group, you'll get the full picture. The wines itself were good, although the ceremony itself was ugly standardised (in fact, we have did it in a company of 50 people under a video instruction in Italian with English subtitles :-)). So, long story short, the tour is more about history of the Marsala wines, but not wine tasting itself.

My husband and I had a fabulous tour of this grand winery last month and it was only last night when we opened one of our bottles of Marsala that we brought home with us and savioured a glass that I was reminded of what a great day we had. Our tour guide was very witty and well informed in all the lengthy process of producing this fine wine. The winery buildings themselves are a retreat from the hot Sicilian sun and the aromas from the casks are quite heady and intoxicating, maybe that was why we enjoyed it! The history of the winery was facinating and the sizes of the casks breathtaking. Our first class guide then took as into this amazing airy gallery where we sampled the Marsala. The first one was a dry Marsala that was great with a chunk of fresh parmesan. The next was sweeter and served with Gorgonzola, totally fab. The next was a dessert wine wine Biscotti. All very delicious and a perfect pairing, I dont usually care for Gorgonzola but it went perfectly with this Marsala.Suitably relaxed we were then let loose and the amazing gift shop. The staff again were very helpful and knowledgeable about all the products on sale with no pressure to buy not that they needed to as the wines were so good and well priced too. There was some great artwork on the wall of a local talent displaying this portfolio this added to the quirky atmosphere in the shop. This was a lovely tour that I will think of fondly with ever sip!

This is excellent, there are 2 tours a day we went on the 3.30 you do have to book which our hotel did for us. But I guess if you turn up at the right time you will get on the tour. There were ~ 20+ on the Italian tour but only 8 on the english tour. Great venue steeped in history (shame the Allies bombed it believing it was a military establishment, Mussolini visited as did Garibaldi). 10 euro for the tour, which we felt was perhaps a little 'rushed'. Good tasting, if you like sherry and like the marked variation from dry to sweet in these products this is great. The shop is good and is not expensive, the wine products in the shop ARE cheaper then the supermarkets, so don't think you're being ripped off. If you like a wine buy it there.

We quite enjoyed this tour. It was a balanced combination of the history of the winery with the wine making techniques of marsala making. The tour ended with a nice sampling of wines and an opportunity to purchase wines in the wine shop. Well worth the time.

We took very informative tour, with guide who spoke English very well. It was interesting to learn the unique process of making true Marsala wines, and to have a very unique tasting of wine and food guided by narrated film. A real down side to the tour is that the winery does not ship to the US. So you taste so many excellent wines, but only have the opportunity to buy the wine you can carry in your luggage home. Making a reservation is suggested, even though the website indicates it is not necessary at the appointed tour times.

The people at Florio winery were very inviting and friendly. What I liked most about this tour was that it wasn't just about wine, but history. Giuseppe Garibaldi unified Italy in the mid 1800's. The place where he and his 1,000 soldiers landed first was Marsala. They proceeded to take Sicily and move north to form what is present day Italy. One of the people who helped him most, especially in the beginning of this quest, was the owner of the Florio winery. After the unification of Italy was finalized, Garibaldi made a trip back to Marsala to thank the owner of the Florio winery for his help. On display durning the tour, you can see the armaments, cannons and muskets that were used in the initial battles in the unification of Italy. Also I could see Large marble plaques that were presented to the Florio winery from Il Duce, Benito Mussolini. Couple this history with the fanatic Marsala wine that this winery produces and you have a wonderful tour. The tasting room is extraordinarily classy. A short film is run that takes you through 3 types of Florio's wines. Although the film is very well done, I'd much prefer a live human to run the tastings and a live interaction with our host instead of watching a video. After the tastings, there is a magnificent gift shoppe with knowledgable staff to help you select the perfect wine. The tour cost 10 euro per person. Given that you get just a sip of three wines, it might seem a bit high, but the history made the tour. I also rated Donnafugata winery on another review, which is just around the corner from Florio. While I wasn't enthusiastic about Donnafugata, I do mention another winery in the Donnafugata review, Tasca D'Almerita that would be well worth your trip and your euro's well spent for a wine experience that stands alone and provided a lifelong memory if you chose to visit Tasca.
