Donaueschingen is in a different style with those half-timber house town in Blackforest. In this city, one can just wander along its quiet streets and lanes full of buildings similar to its city hall, and looking for the source of Donau. No hurry, and you'll find it beside St John Church. I once saw documentary on TV and thought it was a quite beautiful place with the round pond and fine statues above it. However, it was not accessible due to restoration and it was said to be re-opened in 2015!

The Donauquelle and town of Donaueschingen are beautiful. However, if planning to start your Danube Bike Trail tour here at the source, be warned that the bicycle rental services in town are TERRIBLE. Radcenter Rothweiler is the only option and they rented our seven-person group bicycles that were not tuned and had badly worn tires. We inspected the bikes and requested some repairs up front but the owner insisted they were in good shape for our 600km ride. We had problems with at least one of the bikes every single day of our 12-day trip. All of the bicycle mechanics we met along the way (and we met many!) were indignant about the quality of the bicycles Rothweiler gave us and the bad name he was giving other bicycle shops/mechanics in the area. To top it off, he then tried to charge us an extra $400 fee to pick up the bicycles at the end of our stay even though this additional fee had never been discussed. I highly recommend a vacation on the Danube Bike Trail, but bring your own bicycles or find another place to rent. DO NOT GO TO ROTHWEILER.

Located next to the city cathedral, the local Castle, Furstemberg Brauerai and a green park this is a must see (currently not accessible given contruction works). Donaueschingen is a small town with approx. 30 K inhabitants. Most highlights are connected with the activity of the Furstenberg family its facilities and events from the Xmas Market to the Polo games and some gala dinners.

Our specific reason to visit was to mark the start of our Danube River bicycle tour, from the Danube's nominal source to Budapest. It's true, the place is a construction site, but still we were glad to walk down there and throw a coin for luck. Eventually, the improvements will be complete, so it'll be easy to bring the bikes down and those unable to climb stairs will be able to see the pool.

Очень тихий и спокойный городок Донаушинген в Германии. Именно отсюда берет свое начало величественный Дунай. Побродите вокруг, бросьте монетку в источник. Почувствуйте свое прикосновение к этому месту. Наверху рядом находится магазинчик сувениров с очень приветливым продавцом. Однако это - достопримечательность для разового посещения.

L'unica cosa degna di nota è sapere che lì nasce il grande fiume Danubio che con i suoi 2860 Km. è il secondo fiume d'Europa per lunghezza e senza dubbio il più importante, in quanto in gran parte navigabile e attraversa numerosi stati fino a tuffarsi nel mar Nero. Alla luce dei fatti non è che una pozza nel giardino dei principi Von Furstenberg, con una barriera circolare in pietra che la delimita.Andateci solo se non sapete come passare il tempo, non diventate matti per vistarlo, non ne vale la pena!

Malheureusement, le parc et la source ne sont pas accessibles pour des raisons de travaux de restauration. On a toutefois pu jeter coup d’œil à la fontaine depuis le parvis de la magnifique église St-Johann.

Siamo arrivati con la nostra moto nella piazza principale, abbiamo parcheggiato a fianco del duomo e proprio li abbiamo trovato un poliziotto gentilissimo che in inglese ci ha fornito tutte le informazioni storico-geografiche della sorgente del Danubio e della sua reale formazione. Infatti sotto la pioggia e due fantastici arcobaleni siamo riusciti a trovare, sotto sua indicazione, il punto in cui il fiume Danubio si forma realmente, a circa due chilometri più in là. Da un ponte si vede, infatti, la confluenza di due rigagnoli (uno proviene da quella fonte che tutti vanno a visitare a ridosso del parco Furstenberg e l'altro è un altro torrentello con altro nome) che vanno a formare quello che sarà il vero Danubio! Incredibile!

...nasce nella foresta nera e muore nel mar nero...Che s... fortuna!!!Me la sono solo immaginata... purtroppo c'erano dei lavori in corso e ho potuto vedere sì e no una pozza di acqua con tante assi e ponti intorno. Comunque sapere che da lì nasce uno dei più importanti e belli fiumi d'Europa, vale lo stesso la fatica.

Siamo arrivati fin qui con la speranza di visitare il castello e la tanto decantata sorgente del Danubio. Il primo lo abbiamo trovato chiuso senza alcuna indicazione ad uso dei turisti. La seconda, di per sè insignificante, era anch'essa circondata da un cantiere e pareva null'altro che un pantano melmoso di forma circolare. La disorganizzazione turistica non è solo italiana...Per fortuna ci siamo consolati con un buon gelato dalla vicina gelateria veneta Rialto!

„Brigach und Breg bringen die Donau zuweg.“ Besuch der Donauquelle in Donaueschingen. Das weckt Erinnerungen an die Kindheit im Schwarzwald und auch an den Trevi-Brunnen in Rom. Man wirft Geld in den Brunnen hinein, wünscht sich etwas und glaubt sicher daran wiederzukommen. In Donaueschingen wie in Rom tauchen die Kinder nach den Münzen sobald die Touristen weg sind. Eigentlich ist das natürlich verboten, aber sie werden von den Freunden wie Helden des Alltags gefeiert, wenn sie möglichst viele Münzen herausfischen. Bis voraussichtlich Frühjahr 2015 wird die Donauquelle saniert und ist solange nicht zugänglich!

Leider ist von der Donauquelle nichts zu sehen, da alles renoviert wird. Schade, dass kein Hinweis vorhanden ist. Auch vor Ort das selbe. Foto kann ich leider keines hinzu fügen höchstens von der Absperrung!!!!!!!!!!! Wan alles fertig ist eine gute Frage!!!!!!!!!
