You can go to this monastery by bus or car. You can admire the fine buildings and the flowers. The monks will offer you nice tasting bread to eat. There is alsom much else to see on this island, like the main village Livadia, the old village Mikró Chorió, and beautiful places along the coast.

The former monastery is very interesting and our guide and organiser, Ian of Nissia Holidays, was very good but the highlight of this my second visit to the monastery was again the beautiful sunset. The view out towards Nisseros from on the cliffs of the sun disappearing with a nice glass of wine in your hand is magical.

The trip to this monastery is well worth it. You can catch bus from Livadia square on Sunday mornings. If more energetic, you can walk from Megalo Horio.

To visit the old monastery of Agios Panteleimonas is a must when you are on Tilos. You get here by car or motorcycle, and it is also a bus here from Livadia on Sundays, waiting in the monastery one hour before the return. There is also a hiking trail between the monastery and Agios Andonis. The views up here are breathtaking, and the monastery is very peaceful. There is an ever-flowing source of fresh spring water, and many come here to fetch water. The small church is also very beautiful.

There are despite the camaflague two faces of Tilos. One is the "stage-set" of a parady of a traditional Greek island village (Livadia) which is modern, full of cafes, a central bar .....here as one Greek owner put it "We can leech off the tourists".The other is the island, its feeling, history, non-tourist side - of which this ancient monestry is the pinnacle.Over 1000 years old precariously perched on a high cliff facing the sunset, its wonderful peace and solitude creates a feeling of oneness with the Earth sky and sea. Peregrines sail and swoop, eagles fly high overhead and gulls swirl.Although we shall probably move on from Tilos after many years, the bottle of herb-filled holy water from the well at the monestry sits quietly on the workbench next to the hob ......a constant reminder.

The first thing you think about the monastry of Panteleimonas, how on earth they did this! How this place was made, over 400 hundred years ago! High and steep mountins all around. Pandeleimonas is a very small and the "pope" - as the locals call him - seems to be the only inhabitant of the monastry - I'm not quite sure about it, and I have seen him only once, anyway. All in black and with white beard.- The way to the monastry..I must admit is a bit ...ok I closed my eyes. I's not dangerous, not at all, but I have a bit problems with hights. A personal problem. And still, I did go to the top of Mount Olympos of Tilos!! - The monastry of Pantleimos is in a way unique, small but worth of visting.

Wonderful ancient monastery, built 1470, renewed 18th century, on the side of the highest mountain on Tilos. Lovely atmsphere, wall paintings, plants, trees, lots of steps. We saw Bonelli's eagle flying the crags above, and as we walked down the hill, a group of Eleonora's falcons wheeled overhead. Thyme grew by the roadside, we watched the sun set over Nisyros - perfect!

As monasteries go, this is not one of the best, but it is worth the trip for the views. Lovely trees....very forward cat population!

Get the bus from Livadia on Sunday (11am currently), it takes about 25-30 minutes. Some brave people walk back. The monastery & church of St. Pandeleimon is fascinating - ask locals of Tilos about the story of St. P and of Ioannis, the priest who founded the church in the dark & distant past. The setting is magical, with views over to Nissyros, Kos and Turkey.

Great view! And some other information: Leaving Agios Panteleimonas we found a little port named Agios Antonis which is very beautifull, with a traditional fish tavern Antoni's Tavern with delicious fish and other seafood, but also with high prices!

Wednt on "excursion" to the Monestary in "air conditioned" transport .. which turned out to be an open flat back lorry with seats round the sides and at the front. Brilliant views, fresh air... Excellent.

It's a very simple structure located at the end of a breath-takingly awesome panoramic road, which will give a sense of peace and rest to whoever will visit it.

Take Pavlos' bus to the monastery - then wander at will. Take a drink and something to snack on - not always available, If you're lucky, the priest will be there selling his trinkets made from beads. Beware the heat! Marvellously evocative of the life shared.

A mystical monastery hidden in the mountains. This is a very spiritual place.
