This small museum was created during the 1970s only following the beginning of excavations at the prehistoric settlement of Ayia Irini in the Bay of Aghios Nikolaos. It was completely renovated in 2002 and shows, on two floors, amazing objects from the Late Neolithic to the end of the Bronze Period (3300 to 1100 BC), as well as exhibits from the Archaic to the Roman period collected at the four ancient cities of Kea (Ioulis, Koressos, Poiessa and Kartheia which is well preserved and accesible only on foot or from the sea!). This museum is a real surprise: It reveals more than 5000 years of history of Kea, more than most of the better known ancient places in Greece. An absolute must for everybody interested in archeology.
