One of the best folk art museums in all of Greece. Very good fiber arts - especially weaving. Lovely venetian mansion setting. Museum is well located in old town - check out the authentic workshops near by - everything from ceramics to leather works, jewelry, baking...Check out opening hours before you go.

Fascinating and exhibit-packed look at life in bygone Rethymno. Downstairs is given over to exhibits on the various battles for independence and there is a small recreation of a street with shops. Make sure you go upstairs and through the door - it isn't signposted - where a much bigger exhibition space is given over to the various trades that once worked on the island. Well worth a visit.

we really enjoyed our visit, the building was very nice, great displays and the air conditioning was bliss. a good insight into some of the history of the island from the Ottoman times to the mid 20th century.

Spent a very pleasant hour in this peaceful and very interesting venue, full of objects from the Cretan rural past. Some artifacts are highly wrought [lace, hangings, chests, gloves, jewellery etc], others reveal more domestic tasks, though these are no less interesting. Photos and information bring the displays to life, by and large. It's a fine antidote to the modern commercial side of Rethymnon.

Again a fascinating insight to how the Cretan people lived for many centuries. Their struggle for survival, resilience to occupation and right up to the modern day. This museum can be found in the heart of the old town.

The collection of folk art and crafts is much better than that in Chania but there was scarcely anyone else about. Interesting coverage of wartime events in the area too.

Although this is quite a small museum the artifacts on display cover a wide range of interests including textiles, pottery, farming equipment, musical instruments and an interesting and comprehensive display of the historical development of Crete. For the four euro entrance fee it was good value for money.

Excellent display of weapons, pottery making, clothing and lace making and a pretty and cool courtyard of a Venetian town house.

This museum is housed in an old Venetian house, seventeenth century, I think, and that itself is interesting. There are lots of textiles, embroidered, woven and lace which are very beautiful. There are also mock ups of traditional craftsmen's workshops. In addition, there re the usual sorts of coins and artefacts that you would expect to find in a small local museum - coins, tools and lots of photographs. It is also air conditioned and blessedly cool!

Always worth a visit, though its opening hours over the last couple of weeks have been a little erratic, due, I understand, to a couple of strikes.I particularly love the display of typical Cretan businesses, now accessed from the main museum, instead of having to know to go around the back of the building.

If you are interetsed in the quirky, historic part of Crete then this museum is for you. Loads of artefacts, fantastic stories, Crete is wonderful. Also, go and see the famous baklava maker next door. You will definitely not want to miss buying authentic cakes from him. They are incredible.

Love the building and courtyard garden.Good value at 4 euros. Loved sense it was put together by citizens not the Government. The textile work is sensational. Shame it is not well attended - needs some workshops/kids activities/ demonstrations of crafts to encourage the rowds.

nice little museum, downtown Rethymno. You definitely learn about historical work in and around Rethymno. Good for 45 - 60 mins
