Being a frequent visitor this summer, I have to say that my hubby and I have fallen in love with the walled village of Monemvasia. It's quaint alleys and extremely photogenic architecture are very memorable. But what we love most is a little shop in the heart of "downtown" that is owned by the lovely Fotini. She handcrafts her creams and soaps using her own olive oil. She makes incredible honey wine that you MUST purchase! (She gives free samples of everything) We loaded up at the end of the season with honey, olive oil soaps, body lotion, white wine and of course Honey Wine!! YUM!! If you go in to meet this lovely lady, you'll have a story to tell and a warmth in your heart. Her name means light and she exudes it!

When researching for a trip to Monemvasia I came across the Edodimopolio Honey Shop. I was intrigued by the Melitokraso liqueur which is made of honey and all the other local products. After exploring magical Monemvasia Castle, I wanted to make Edodimopolio our first stop. As soon as we walked in the door, I knew we were in for a treat. Tsagari is an amazing woman and her personality shines through when explaining all the wonderful quality local products in this shop. We sat with her tasting the Melitokraso liqueur which is wonderful and my first purchase, the walnut liqueur, the almond cookies, and the loukoumi. Enjoyed seeing all the almond treats, the local wines, home-made soap, local herbs and pastas. We could have bought one of everything but unfortunately there was only so much room in our suitcases! We carefully purchased some special items and she gave me a bottle of 'spoon sweets' which we are keeping for a special occasion. It was so interesting to hear her explain the history of the famous Monemvasia-Malvasia wine that dates back almost five centuries. After 17 years of effort, Monemvasia Winery produced 9829 bottles of Monemvasia-Malvasia 2010, their first bottling!! It was bottled in 2013 after two years of aging. After picture taking and hugs we left this special shop with smiles on our faces after such an interesting experience. Do not go to Monemvasia without visiting this wonderful place.

The attendant is so nice and explains everything to you. Loved to try the olive oil and the honey liquor. But what we miss most is Benios Olive Oil so gooood. And Monemvasia is just wonderful. Hope to get back some day.
