We enjoyed this part of our South Coast adventure tour. It's a glorious place! The walk to the glacier is a bit of a hike and my fear of heights kick in on the way, but it was well worth the effort. A must see!

I recently went to Iceland to celebrate my birthday and to scatter my late mother's ashes. Whilst on a day trip around Southern Iceland with Southcoast Adventure I tasked our fabulous guide Smári with finding a location befitting for a final resting place for my mum. He suggested the Sólheimajökull glacier and when we got there it was just right. The skies cleared and the sun came out, so I reckon my mum decided it was a good place too!There is a large, rough parking area and a rest stop and small cafe. Hiking tours set off from there too. We didn't have hiking gear so weren't able to walk up on the actual glacier but we could go right up to it, and all around the frozen lake. We also picked up some great lava specimens to take home as a souvenir.There were various groups out on the glacier when we were there but nothing like the commercial trips you find at the more popular waterfalls and geysers.Beautiful spot to stop and explore for 45 to 90 mins.
