The monument is really huge and visible from afar. It was built during the Communist times and portrays the crucial moments in the history of Bulgaria. The statues and mosaics are nice but I wouldn't say so about the concrete structures which encircle the complex. I would suggest you to climb up the stairs instead of going to the monument by car. It is a nice walk up and a very good cardio exercise. The view of Shumen from the top is awesome. There is a nice forest behind the monument where you can take a stroll or make a picnic. You can restore your strength in the small restaurant which is close by.Honestly, I've never seen anybody collecting fee there and I've never paid respectively.

My and my wife was there in November 27 and we arrived with our car to the top of the hill. It wasn't easy to find the way, but eventually we managed to arrive at sunset. At the entrace was a fee, but there was no one to pay it, so we decide to enter. The monument is huge and has a futuristic architecture. The views of Shumen are astonishing!

If you like you history and architecture this is a great visit. The monument is huge and impressive and full of surprises. Their is a small cafe near monument for refreshment. You can walk up steps from the town but will need to be fit and most drive up and will not cost much in taxi if no transport. If you go on a nice day the views are incredible.

Amazing place, where you can feel the history of Bulgaria represented in special unique way! You can also feel the ideology of the time when it was built

This place is another example of massive sculptures and Bulgarian's horrid architectures. It is definitely worthy to see. You pay 3leva for adult. You can also buy some few souvenirs there and go to the toilet as well. Signs again very bad but roads are ok actually.

This monument is the pride of the people who live in Shumen. The meadows and the forests around are quite beautiful and relaxing. The monument itself represents the key figures and moments of the history of Bulgaria.

Being born in Shumen, for me this monument is a true symbol of the city. It's quite a pleasant walk up the 1300 steps, and the view that opens at the top is awesome. At the top you can have a picnic under the trees, have a cup of coffee or beer, or just walk for an hour or so to Shoumen fortress. The top area (the so-called Plateau) is also very nice for biking, rollerskates, walking with kids. You can also reach by car, if you'd rather not walk the steps, on the car road there's a nice spring where we used to go as kids.Go here at sunrise or sunset - it's amazing! Must-see if you are visiting Shoumen.

The monument is not beautiful by a long shot, but nevertheless it is quite impressive. It is nice walk up the hill (1300 steps) and the monument with its’ cubist statues and mosaics are definitely worth seeing up close. There are great views over Shumen area as well up from the plateau. There is a small entrance fee, but the person collecting the fee is not always present (I have visited the monument four times, paid twice).A must see in Shumen – it is not even possible to visit the city without seeing this gargantuan.

Built by the Communists in the 1980s it must have employed a lot of men for a long time. It is huge. Not enough information in English yet but still very impressive statues that are sort of self explanatory by their sheer immensity. Not hard to reach by car, don't believe your GPS when it tells you to drive down a bush track as a shortcut to the monument. You end up where you are only supposed to walk!

Once we managed to get up to the monument - easier to walk than drive - we were unaware of how impressive this was going to be. You can see the monument from miles away perched into of the plateau but it is only up close that you realise the scale of the thing. We were given some information that helped interpret the gestures of the figures and the important events and moments in time that they represented. An amazing imagining, well worth a visit.

This place is absolutely impressive, not only due to its hilltop location but mainly to to its design. It is a huge concrete monument, depicting scenes and figures from Bulgarian history, including military and religious facts. A must see if you are in Shumen.

The Monument is situated on a top of a hill and it offers stunning views of the city of Shumen. To get there, you should climb 1300 steps, but if you're with your car, there's a road that goes right next to the monument. The entrance fee is 3 Leva and the Monument is the only one in the world that features the history of a country from its beggining to its present. The sculptures may seem very strange due to its art style, Cubism. The monument can be seen from 30 km away and it worth paying a visit.
