In the middle of the winter but with few snow left, you can enjoy the beautiful landscape. The monastery is very well maintained and you should visit the museum on the third floor. They also serve good soup and local dishes with flavor of the region.

Interesting place to visit. Inside is some beautiful art work but at least half has been destroyed/in very poor condition. It is not as well preserved as some of the other monasteries I have visited. There are a few gift shops and market stalls outside the grounds.

If you are looking to see a small village with beautiful nature, make a stop to Oreshak and visit the monastery. Very historic and set in the mountain side. In the fall it is very lush with the nearby water making it a nice and peaceful setting. Not crowded when I went, small rooms on top floors with museums, only cost 2 Lev to enter. Nothing really in English, but still worth entering to look around. Very nice walk if you are staying in Oreshak (about 2k). So many helpful and friendly people as well!

This shrine was very busy on a nice Sunday morning with people who came to venerate an icon in the church. The monastery is old and interesting to see and the setting is very pleasant. And there is no harm in acquiring a blessing and saying a prayer, even if you are not Orthodox. It is well worth seeing if you are in the area.

Troyan monastery welcomes you with great views and interesting history dating from XVI century. If you visit Bulgaria do not skip this place!!!

It's a real interesting place like most of the monasteries in Bulgaria use to be; the negative part is that taking pictures is not allowed, a normal rule in these kind of places.

The Monastery is nice, clean and the overall conditions are looking great. I was dissapointed that even in the gardens pictures, cameras and gsm vieos are not allowed. Why? Inside ok, bu outside?!

At distance 3 km from Oreshak, near the mountains and Cherni Osam river, the monastery of Holy Mother Assumption has a number of frescoes well preserved and the impressive icon of Three handed Holy Vergin. It is worth a visit!

I have been three times on various visits to the area and highly recommend. If you are lucky there will be a mass in the small church to see. Even if you do not speak the language the buildings are beautiful and the experience is worthwhile.

A lovely courtyard surrounded by the monastery buildings and the most wonderful church with incredible frescoes (which aren't as old as you might think). What I liked is that it was all just a little bit overgrown with stray pussycats lying in the sun. It felt homely and welcoming with little in the way of concessions to tourism (although there are market stalls outside selling random stuff). One wouldn't spend a lot of time here but it is definitely worth a detour to visit. Its a shame that.....there isn't more done to explain the history and the life of the monksBest bit...painted church (why an elephant tho?)In a word.....calming

Dont plan a long stay here. It is quaint but not much to see and do. The history of it is intereting so worth buying a book so you know what your looking at.

Located near the Balkans mountains, east of Sofia, it is well worth the 2 hours drive. You will find yourself in the middle of the nature and in a typical region of Bulgaria

The Troyan monastery is a fully functional monastery which is opened for visitors every day. It has a small museum of Bulgarian history and a lot of greenery. A must go to during summer.

One of the most beautiful orthodox monasteries I have ever seen. You feel God presence in this place. Rare are places like this... Maybe only some Greek monasteries in the Meteor can compare with Troyan monastery... in the village you can find wonderful tradional cuisine.

A mountain, a river and of course, a typical Bulgarian monastery. Go to the room where Vasil Levski, the most famous Bulgarian hero has been hiding from the Ottomans.
