At the time of writing (October 2014) the Flour Mill is surrounded by a wall and some sort of construction work is going on. It can be seen from the road, but not well. Sadly, it doesn't seem to have occurred to whoever is managing these works to build a viewing platform for visitors to have a good look at the flour mill.

Surrounded by a marble redevelopment we couldn't get anywhere near. The preserved (not working) steam train and small line up of tanks and guns was interesting.

This house is one of the reminders left after the dreadful siege of Staliningrad. I thought it's amazing what human persistence can do as I walked around Volgograd and seeing all of the buildings that have been repaired or rebuilt. Only museums, some warfare and memorial monuments are the remainders of city's dark past, the buildings seem oddly unconcerned. Apart from this one. It's close to the museum and panorama dedicated to the Battle of Staliningrad. You can see the state most of city's buildings were after war and this one was intentionally left to remind everyone of the insane destruction of it all. If you're also interested in seeing how the whole city looked after the siege, you can see a model of town with buildings destroyed in the museum.

You can only see the building from the outside and at a distance -- but if you are interested in the history of the Battle this is a must see. All the bullet and shell holes are genuine and if you close your eyes you can almost smell and hear the sounds of very fierce fighting which lasted for months. You can easily imagine Red Army fighters firing from the many openings in the building. It is next to the Panorama Museum and in the forecourt, near the souvenir and ice-cream sellers, is a collection of military vehicles and tanks from the Battle. Over the street is the site of Pavlov's House, the outpost which provided early warning of coming German assaults on the Flour Mill and resulted in the Russians holding it for so long against incredible odds. Pavlov's House has been completely rebuilt but the ruins are represented by brickwork on the façade depicting what the original looked like at the end of the battle.

This place is one of the most important places to visit in Volgograd. This building was bombed, but survived the war. It is a living example of how destructive the war is. Near this place there is also the panorama museum dedicated to the war.

у меня именно эта мельница вызвала настоящее ощущение сопричастности к тем событиям. мельница не реставрирована, она практически в первозданном виде. и такое чувство было, что она до сих пор хранит в себе те эмоции - людей, которые в ней находились во время боев

Ее часто путают с Домом Павлова, но он находится через дорогу, вернее то,что от него осталось. Тяжелое впечатление, особенно смотреть на это, когда неофашизм поднимает голову. Конечно обязательно нужно приходить с детьми, мы должны учить их нашей славной истории

Внизу, на набережной, выставка техники времён войны, несколько образцов немецкой, поразила разбитая тридцатьчетвёрка, на постаментах она как-то не так выглядит, а тут конкретно-братская могила,и сама мельница - как там просто в живых остаться, а не то чтобы выполнять приказ...

Вот, именно из-за этого надо было оставить это здание! Когда подходишь поближе, чуствуешь боль России, ту горькую память, которую у нас всячески пытаются стереть из нашего сознания. Весь город был в таких руинах. От многих заний и вовсе не осталось следа. Вечером включается интерактивная часть и памятник оживает! Это - потрясающая находка! Я очень рада, что не прошла мимо этого живого памятника!

Разрушенная мельницу часто путают с домом Павлова, как мне сказали. Но остатки стены от дома Павлова находятся через дорогу. Также рядом находится музей-Панорама, мини Ж/Д музей под открытым небом. Вид здания конечно впечатляет, но я думаю таких зданий много по стране, которые разрушены не войной, а разрухой страны в 90-х и воровством. Сам факт что здание сохранили и не снесли заслуживает особой благодарности.

Весь ужас и масштаб Сталинградской битвы можно представить, увидев руины мельницы, остатки стены дома Павлова и конечно же музей-панораму.
