Statue is cute with screws simulating the spikes, but nothing special, not worth the trip. 200 meters from golden gate, not easy to find.

In 2003 "Hedgehog in the Fog" won the "#1 Animated film of all the time" at "All time animation best 150 in Japan and Worldwide" contest in Tokyo, Japan. I bet Japanese know stuff about animation))Other reviews even provide the link to the video on Youtube - so why not check it out. A cartoon, that every Soviet kid would watch. Rather surrealistic in fact, not too Soviety.Monument is rather small and not really a sightseeing spot per se. But if you are around - your Facebook friends would definitely like your selfie with the hedgehog on the background))

At the top of the hill by the Ukraine / Russian monument this little chap sits. You can put money in, touch him and wish for your hearts desires. A quirky statue

It's kind of cute, but small, and really not worth going out of your way for. Not worth your time unless you are walking past anyway.

So this may not be worth a trip to see but it is near the Golden Gate so you might as well plan your route accordingly. There is a fun cartoon about a Hedgehog and this is a monument to it. Pretty straight forward. You can watch the cartoon here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dRsXU4Q6a0Q

How anyone can be grumpy about such a cute attraction is beyond me.Take it for what it is. It's FREE. It's within 50m of Saint Sophia Cathedral (albeit it, the back).Take a selfie. Take a pic. Smile at its childish simplicity.Enjoy the simple things in life!

As we were walking the streets of Kiev, my guide pointed out that the Hedgehog is looking up at the statue it faces and perhaps laughing as the horse's proportions are not correct.

From the Trip Advisor reviews, felt I had to go and see this as it was only 5 minutes from hotel. A wooden monument to a famous cartoon character - nothing more/nothing less.

This monument was made by Konstantyn Skretutskyi in honour of the cartoon hero "Hedgehog in the fog" that was named the best cartoons of all the times.

I only popped to see this because of the reviews on trip advisor. It was quite sweet and would agree that it is worth a short detour but don't go out of your way. But if you do go I recommend the amazing Italian on the corner by the golden gate!

It supposed to be our #1 place to visit in Kiev. Right after our airplane arrived to Kiev, we (a couple) rushed towards the monument addressed to "Hedgehog in the Fog." At first, we were confused because we didn't see any monument in the area where it supposed to be. Later, we realized that people around us were also confused because they addressed back our question: "Where is Hedgehog?".In the closer look, we realised a poster of Hedgehog on the tree saying that "I left to count stars. I will return in May." Because it was October, we knew that we will not see him during our trip. However, we were glad that he left an adorable message. We hope to see him next time!

an interesting thing to see if you make it to the golden gate, but not worth a trip just for it. brings you good luck if you rub it right!

The hedgehog is back, and I don't know if he's changed, but he looks great! It's a quiet little green space. Enjoy a coffe or a beer at the shop nearby before heading back into the bustle of Kiev.

I went by to see the monument on 2nd March, 2014 and a poster on a tree at the site appeared to say the monument would be restored in place as of 26 March. The monument is located on a side street behind St. Sophia's Cathedral, so it's not far from where many tourists will visit when in Kiev.
