This is the place if you want to escape from the (crowded) beaches and bars and enjoy a quiet afternoon, walking around a large space, very well kept and with some interesting sculptures and installations.

Most people don't even know this place exists and will be definitely surprised when they visit it! This is the foundation of a Uruguayan artist whose works of art are made of Marble. Pieces of other artists are also exhibited there, but what makes it most interesting is the surrounding of the venue and its maginicent views. It is not a closed museum but a park with great views and art.

The view is amazing, great the idea of showing Atchugarry's works. Very nice place for conventions, expositions, outdoor shows.

Beautiful landscape with open air sculptures, also great indoor museums, during the season free open air concerts. (Alas, for liabilitly reasons they stopped serving free champagne last year...)

The artwork is stunning but the real draw are the grounds. A large ranch has been made over to showcase contemporary art. Off the beaten path, but well worth the drive to see.

At the risk of committing an act of lese majeste, the best thing about this place is the setting, a beautiful park in a beautiful landscape far from traffic noise and city bustle. In that garden you can view numerous sculptures in different styles by different international artists, including of course by the venerated Mr. Atchugarry himself whose name seems to crop up in every conversation in Punta del Este and whose studio is in the same complex; he will be happy to autograph one of the books sold at the gift shop for you. Whether you enjoy those sculptures is of course a matter of taste - to me most of them lacked originality and individual character. Mr. Atchugarry focuses on large (very large, some of them) marble objects that reminded me of flames reaching up to the sky - certainly not bad but quite repetitive. The gallery that is also part of the complex presents changing exhibitions; during our visit this included sculptures by Miguel Herrera Zorrilla, a Uruguayan artist, that are truly original and funny and made the trip worth while.

Our visit enabled us to see Atchugarry's work from when it is a crayon sketch on a block of marble to when skilled artisans sand and polish the final piece. We were able to walk around the workshop, the outdoor storage area with huge blocks of marble waiting to become beautiful works of art - some many feet tall, others much smaller. The indoor galleries were fairly small and sparsely populated. Two highlights of the visit were the workshop and the separate building housing Atchugarry's personal collection. The spacious grounds covering several acres of grass-covered rolling hills with ponds are fantastic as there are massive and modest sized, contemporary sculptures scattered over the entire area - one is even in a pond. It is a great place to stroll and enjoy each piece in a beautiful setting. I highly recommend including Fundacion Pablo Atchugarry on the itinerary of anyone who enjoys contemporary art.

We spent a very nice hour touring the sculpture gardens one weekday morning in mid-February and there was hardly anyone else there. The sculptures are interesting and nice, but it is the overall layout and gardens that make the place special. It was a great “walk in the park” and it’s free!

Pablo Atchugarry is a world class sculptor and he has constructed a beautiful museum / gallery / grounds to exhibit sculptors work and promote the arts. Well worth the visit located 25 minutes north of Punta in Mananatiales, a very small seaside town worth the visit as well. The beaches here along the coastline are excellent with some strong surf.

I went to the Fundacion Athugarray a Monday of December. Unfortunately it was closed. I could not check that on the website as it does not mention the opening hours, not even a phone number. It is a pity because the location is a little remote at 4,5 km from Manantiales and I wasted my time. I could see the beautiful park of sculptures from various artists of South America. The park is huge, there is a little train I suppose to visit the park but of course it was not working. I saw some very nice sculptures of Pablo Atchugarry through the windows of a gallery. I could also see some works in progress as there was nobody to prevent me from going near the atelier!

Fine sculptures from famous artist Pablo Atchugarty, in natural environment near Punta del Este. Marvelous visit for a summer afternoon, till sunset.

I live in Punta, yet I never tire of visiting the Fundacion. Pablo Atchugarry is Uruguay's greatest living artist, and a wonderful person. The Fundacion is intended to showcase the works of other artists, as part of Pablo's desire to help young artists, and those just getting started. His own works are at the back of the property, in the third building. Also throughout the summer season, there are concerts and events almost every weekend. The location is about 10 minutes past La Barra, and very easy to find.
