Unfortunately with the reduction of the former double track railway line through Malmsbury, north of Kyneton on the way to Bendigo, to one track through this imposing station, the main bluestone building does not now have a track next to it.Sadly the building is untenanted and boarded up. I just stood and admired its dark, brooding form recently and although it was a clear, sunny day, I tried to imagine what it must be like at 0500 on a winter's morning when fog swirls around. The second platform (with far less significant structures) is now where trains stop. The station is a reminder of how the then colony of Victoria, its coffers overflowing form the 1851 Gold Rush, almost bankrupted itself building the so-called 'Main Line' to Bendigo.
