Brighton beach is close to the Melbourne CBD and is a lovely local beach. There are two different areas at the beach. One is right opposite the Brighton beach station, and the other one with the colourful bathing boxes is about 2 kms from the same station.Either of these are good. They are small with a large number of shells strewn about on the beach. The waters are very clear and feels good. From either of the beaches, you can have a fabulous view of the Melbourne CBD. Facilities: there is a simple shower right at the beach, and toilets 100meters from the beach. How to get there: take the Sandringham train from Flinders street. Get down at the " Brighton beach" station. It is a short walk of 500meters to the beach. And about 2 kms walk to the bathing boxes.Parking available too. It is charged @ 5$ an hour capped at 15.5$ for the day. Parking is limited though.Nice walking paths all around connecting the beaches.Eating: there is a nice upscale bistro / bar right opposite the beach.

Wondering how this beach got the "Iconic" label? While I recommend visiting this beach with its brightly coloured beach sheds, some may find it overrated. Ride the train out from Melbourne Central & visit the beach and if your interested in about a 6km beautiful, beach walk mostly on paved pathways; walk all the way back to St. Kilda Pier where you can get back on public transportation to Melbourne Central. Or if a walk is not in you plans, return directly on the train. For most of the way, walkers and bicyclists have separate paths. Several places for refreshments and washroom stops. RECOMMENDED!!

The perfect beach for swimming, sunbathing, rock pooling, kite surfing, beach sports... and of course the Bathing Boxes. And there is plenty of room for everyone.

Its become an iconic image of Melbourne so I took some visitors there. The bathing Boxes are bright and interesting. The beach is ok, but not the best around.

We visited Brighton Beach on Christmas Day morning for a few hours to soak up the rays, drink champagne and a few beers. It was a popular place to be but the beach is large enough that we had plenty of space to enjoy the sunshine. What a surreal experience for a Scot at Christmas time!

I stayed very near to Brighton Beach at one of my friend's place and it was such a lovely place. I was able to do things like cycle. There was a cycle path that takes one all the way from one end of the beach to another. Another great feature is if you walk the length and breadth of the beach, you will be able to see the locals going for their jogs and walks especially in the evenings. It's so lovely to walk here and to watch the sun-setting over the horizon. On top of that, this is a dog friendly beach. There were so many lovely canines having fun, running along the beaches, frolicking in the sand and their owners having fun with them too.We walked all the way up to the beach boxes and had such fun just taking pictures of all the colourful boxes. There were loads of people doing that as well. Do bring along a light jacket as the winds can be pretty strong and it does get rather cold in the late evenings. Since we stayed at the upper end of the beach, it means that we had an excellent view of not just the city skyline but all the wonderful display of fireworks this New Year.I would certainly recommend this beach to anyone who happens to be around the area.

Taking a SandringhamLine train from Melbourne city is 25 minutes. Get off at the preserved original station of Brighton Beach. Cross the road to a wide beach and start walking towards the city. You will see the city skyline from Green Point and the fabulous homes of the rich and famous. A great walking path to enjoy the fresh air the colourful beach boxes. Stop at North rd cafe for regfreshments and spotting celebrities. That's a one hour outing. It's worthwhile following the track all the way through Elwood Beach and to the mega trendy St Kilda Beach. From there catch a tram back to the city.

The beach boxes set this beach off for some great photos. Nice big stretch of beach sand with a concreted walking path along the foreshore. We stayed nearby at the Brighton Savoy and it was a good spot for a walk on dusk, watching the sun set over the bay.

Went down to Brighton Beach on Christmas Day for a walk. Had the annual Christmas family picture taken on the beach with the famous bathhouses in the background. Great setting, easy to get to and good for a quick dip.

A little drive out of Sydney- but great family beach. The bath houses are awesome! Brightly painted and great for pics. Also has a wonderful dog beach!! Stopped at a kiosk for some beach food and drinks. Very nice afternoon!!

Starting when the birds start calling, there are bikers, runners out. in the early part of the day, families are out enjoying the day. I liked this beach and the Brighton "beach boxes" had lots of people taking photos of them//
