Anakie Gorge is an introductory gorge located in the Brisbane Ranges.Because it is a gorge, you will see plenty of snakes here and some are big. You are advised to walk on the trails not on the bush/stones/woods areas because snakes could be anywhere. There are also koalas on the trees. There are plenty of koalas in Anakie town in general. I have seen them on the road while driving at night and I looked at it and it approached and sat just next to my car waiting to be hugged. I didn't hug it because I knew it's a wild animal and it might climb onto my body and scratched, etc because it has huge claws on its hands. The next night I drove there, I saw it dead around the same spot probably tried to approach another car and I saw two koalas dead there not just one.Anakie Gorge trails are only 3 km long which connect Anakie Gorge picnicground to Stony Creek picnic ground and it's beautiful and varied types of trails in it. Some trails are really narrow and often when you hike there, you will see movement in the bush (sometimes can be caused by winds by also wild animals). Again, watch around you and open your ears, too when you hike especially on narrow trails because there might snakes just next to your feet or wild cats or maybe kangaroos.Anakie Gorge is crowded on Sundays even when they are not warm/hot days. Big picnic ground and clean table and chairs, too compared to Steiglitz Park chairs and tables which are the worst and mouldiest chairs and tables I have ever seen in parks/forests. There are pit toilets (google what pit toilets are). And be careful when sitting on chairs, I saw medium sized worms (or maybe very small snakes on the ground, on the chairs, and on the table). Remember Anakie Gorge being a gorge, it is famous of its snakes..Every 20 minutes of hiking you see a big chair too in the trails so you can sit and relax.I call this introductory because it is only 3 km long one way or 6 km return. 3 km is probably one hour walk at most.I have also seen eagles and kookaburras in Anakie in general. Eagles are big birds that consume meats and can carry little kids away by its feet and they will fly them somewhere to eat them (yes, I have seen a youtube video of an eagle carried away a little kid but the parent spotted it and the bird dropped the kid and it happened in another country). Their feet are strong.Kookaburras are medium sized birds that have sounds of laughing monkeys. The views and the tracks are in general better than the whole Brisbane Ranges in general. Maybe because I like gorges. There should be plenty of kangaroos. Be aware of the big, tall ones (adult males).I have seen tourist buses too there.I have been to Anakie Gorge many times over the past 3 months.
