After visiting Herberton Historic Village we were advised to have a look at the Mining Museum. It is an awesome display of not only mining in Herberton but all around Australia. An insight to the hard life that the miners had but how grateful they were to experience it. A fabulous display with lovely helpful volunteers. Please give this a visit. Whilst here we did the walk that takes you to the old mines, where the buildings have been maticulously rebuilt after Cyclone Larry. Great experience.

We had visited the historic village which was fabulous, and wanted to quickly see the museum, an hour later we left, it's not as polished as the village, but it has real soul, it tells the story of the people that lived and worked in the mines, and gives a deep insight into the dangers and perils. Some nice geological specimens (so my husband says) and very interesting view on how the mining operations were carried out over one hundred years ago. I understand that the museum doesn't have loads of visitors, which is a shame as it's very interesting, perhaps it should relocate to the historic village, as what they have complements the village really well and then more people would see its exhibits, as I said it adds the missing piece, the stories of the people. Go visit you won't be disappointed. If you visit the village entrance to thee museum is free.

This mining museum is pretty fantastic which gives you an insight into how mining went all over Australia, not just within the Herberton Area, also looks at different rocks and gemstones as well

An awesome collection of gemstones and rocks, well displayed and labelled. Also a cute little mine for the kids to go into.
