A leisurely drive north of Port Douglas to Mossman is the magnificent and beautiful Mossman Gorge. Ample visitor parking at the base of the Gorge where you can start your walking trek or take the bus, for a approx $8.50 per adult, to the base of almost the 3km walking trek and swimming area.Highly recommend you adhere to the swimming warning of the day as there are hidden and obvious dangers. There had unfortunately been a death the week before we visited with "do not swim" sign displayed on that particular day.Picturesque photo opportunities are abundant throughout Mossman Gorge, so have your camera or phone ready! We took some amazing and memorable family photos.The walking trek is for all ages and fitness levels as it is at your leisure although if you have a pram it can be a little difficult in areas with stairs & steps, even though the staff at the entrance say it is pram friendly.Great amenities upon return to Carpark to refresh and a cafe if you didn't pack your picnic.If you have any rubbish you must take with you to dispose of at the Carpark.This is a must do if you are in the region!

We heard about the Kuku Yulanji Dreamtime Walking Tour from the cashier at the Mossman Gorge Centre and knew we had to do it.Our native Kuku Yulanji tour guide was a witty and captivating young man who walked us through everything from a cleansing smoke ceremony (for protection), and learning about boys coming of age ceremonies, to the uses of plants for food, medicine, protection, and paint, and a trek through the rainforest into the gorge (with its clear drinking water).Excellent tour and way to spend 2 1/2 hrs. My husband and 8 year old daughter both considered it one of their favorite activities during our stay in Queensland. Good tea and biscuits at the end of the hike made for a perfect morning.

We are travelling through NE Australia, and happened along Mossman's Gorge and decided to turn off the main road and check it out.For $8.50 per adult you get a roundtrip shuttle, about 2km, to a drop off point where you are free to roam the grounds. You can also pay a little more for a 1.5hr guided tour, which we didn't do.Things to know.1) Bring a Swimsuit, or something to get wet in. It is hot here, and there is crisp, cold water to get in.2) There are showers you can use for free after your time near the gorge. Wish I had know that in advance!3) The Rainforest walk is the highlight in my opinion. Lots to see, especially huge Fig Trees. It isn't a hard walk, but it is very undulating. Bring Water4) The Gorge is basically a big riverbed with HUGE boulders. I was expecting the Grand Canyon, still very cool nonetheless.All in all, this was a very pleasant stop on our trip. I would recommend it to those travelling the area with a couple of hours to spend.

Rodney was our guide and was excellent. It was an outstanding interpretive tour of an area of the gorge not otherwise accessible. Rodney shared not only his people's traditional knowledge but also his personal story. The centre itself is a great facility and we had a tasty lunch of kangaroo salad and barramundi burger. We would highly recommend doing this tour to get the most out of the gorge.

Well presented by members of the Kuku Yalangi group. Food areas were clean and extremely well presented as was the souvenir shop and trips to Mossman Gorge. Nothing was rushed and visitors were given time to do as much or as little as they liked. (Remember, in Kuku Yalangi language the "k" is pronounced more like our "g" as in "good".

I recently took this tour with my ten year old son and we were not disappointed. Our guide, Aaron, was a really good host and guide. He confidently fielded a lot of questions (though he understandably wouldn't go near any 'secret women's business'!)This tour is extremely informative and takes you to parts of the Gorge you would otherwise not be allowed to visit. It is a very special place - so peaceful and beautiful. Yalada to Aaron and the team at the Mossman Gorge Centre.

This guided tour is well worth your time. The guide we had was brought up by elders in the area and had a wealth of local knowledge of the rainforest to share. It was fascinating for young and old alike. You do need wet weather gear - after all, it is a rainforest, so you can expect to see rain, and sturdy walking shoes and warm clothes will keep you comfortable. They provide walking sticks to steady your footing - take my advice and use one in each hand as they make the walking so much easier and more secure. Having said that, it is not a hard walk. It is a most enjoyable walk with some fascinating lessonsalong the way by someone who really knows about survival and life in the rainforest.

Thoroughly enjoyable tour which kept two children very entertained. Don't forget your swimmers as a dip in the Gorge should not be missed.

This place is virtually on my back door. I have been visiting this beautiful spot since I was a child. The swimming hole is Devine but cold all year round. Care must be taken at all times as the water can run very quickly especially during the wet season. This is a must visit for every one visiting The Douglas Shire.

I already wrote about this tour under 'Mossman Gorge', but enjoyed it so much, wanted to make sure I put in a plug for it here too - hadn't realised they were listed separately. The 1 & 1/2 hour tour definitely worth taking - the indigenous guides (Rodney was ours) are so passionate about their land and give you such great insight into both the land around you and how intrinsically they have linked their culture into it. Really enjoyable and memorable experience, without feeling artificially Aboriginal, as sometimes these cultural experiences can feel. Just be sure to bring the Aeroguard - definitely was sorry I had left that behind...

I booked by telephone a day earlier; but when we arrived it seemed our booking had been misplaced.After a couple of minutes our despair was turned to delight as Shelley arranged our personal guide Tom to take us on a wonderful experience of the rainforest and Rex Creek.Thank you all at Mossan Centre! My husband and I were the only people booked on our tour which made the experience more personal...located in a 'not for general public' area, the experience felt like it was created by local people, for the benefit of the local community, which helped to justify the price in my mind. We walked through the jungle and heard lots of stories about the flora and fauna from our knowledgable guide and even saw 'the dragon'. You could hear the rushing water at the gorge from a way off but on reaching the river we really felt we were somewhere special.
