Tour guide was helpful, friendly & had a wealth of knowledge about the caves and the area in general. Worth a visit if you are up that way touring. Not far from Wing's Wildlife Park & the Leven Canyon, so all three could be incorporated into a day trip from say Ulverstone, certainly during day-light savings (probably all 3 a bit much during autumn/winter months).Take a jacket as can get cool. Check opening hours during winter months as it may be closed due to flooding etc.

We had a lovely tour guide Trish, extremely knowledgeable with all of our questions, considerate and mostly fun. The tour was eye catching, from the glow worms to the stalactites (taking millions or years to form) everywhere you looked was beautiful, if your lucky you may even spot a crayfish or platypus in the water below. They may be some steep steps but if my 78 year old auntie can do it, anyone can. Highly recommended to everyone!

I have been to the other caves in the region and they were good. But this cave system has everything they had plus more, all in one system.The tour was really fun and informative, the cave path varied with flats, steps, ladders and squeezes.The only thing is to take your time with the steps (I have bad knees and got down ok) and the railing can be slippery with moisture. So listen to the guides advise and do it slowly.The amount of work they have done in construct the path is incredible.I have visited 9 caves in Oz, NZ and Europe (this is my 10th) and I can honestly say I was really impressed with it and recommend it strongly.Also, this area is beautiful and if you combine it with the trip to the amazing Leven Canyon and Wings Wildlife park you have a really full fun filled day.There is also a nice picnic area with undercover and views.

The caves at Gunn's Plains are well worth a visit. You have to climb down some steep steps at .he start but it is worth it . The cost was reasonable and Geoff, who took us through the caves was very interesting and knowledgeable. Well worth the drive .

Jeff is a great tour guide and gives you good information on the history and the technicals of the caves. Very interesting, moderately physically challenging exploration through the cave system. Been there a few times now and I'll keep taking my visiting friends there. Admission fee is a fair price too fit what you get.

My wife and I visited Gunns Plains Caves 35 years ago on our honey moon - so I thought it would be a great place to re-visit with my adventure motorcycle riding buddies on our annual Tasmanian Tour for 2014.We departed the Spirit of Tasmania in Devonport and headed to Ulverstone for a slap up breakfast and then took the scenic tour via the back roads to Gunns Plains Caves to arrive just before the first tour at 10.00am - allowing enough time for a quick toilet break in the very clean restrooms.We were met by Chris - our tour guide for the day - and I must say he ran an excellent and informative tour for the 7 of us - we were to only one on that early tour.The caves are the same as they were 35 years ago - pristine and presented extremely well to provide cave tourists with great viewing locations and platforms.The pathways are well lit and not too narrow. There are some stair sections where you need to watch your footing and some low rock formations where your head will get a touch up unless you duck.But after you decent the stairs down into the cave from the main entrance you know you are in a different world.At one point Chris turned all the light off just to give an indication of how dark it was - needless to say it was dark - very dark. Withoiut giving too much away as you shoudl make the time to take in this tour - there are spectacular displays of cave formations that resemble many things, like bacon, the titanic and many many more.The tour lasts for about an hour and Chris is quite a few funny stories to tell along the way.Well worth the short drive from Devonport - a must see for all - especially those that love cave exploring.

The caves present varied displays of structures from caves I have seen in New Zealand. Concrete path makes it easy to travel through.

Great drive from Burnie, tours roughly on the hour. Only a short wait then we were straight down the cave, literally. Geoff was a really good guide, good script and ad lib. Very interesting.Cheap attraction at only $15 adult, or $40 family. Tip, afternoon tour is a better chance to see the platypus nesting deep in the caves

A very good toilet! And a goat or two. The caves are worth a look and if you wish, take BBQ stuff with you for a quiet lunch on the free BBQ's. Even if you don't go into the caves, you can use the toilet......bonus.

This is such a beautiful attraction that is just a short drive from Ulverstone. The tour guide was very friendly and knowledgeable and kept everyone’s interests. Both adults and children can enjoy this experience. I highly recommend visiting the Gunns Plains Caves for a great experience that is just a little bit out of the way. Although you can just turn up, it’s a good idea to ring first to make sure they know you’re coming to ensure your spot on a tour.

Just off the Spirit of Tasmania heading towards Stanley and Saw the sign for the Caves, by family agreement we headed down. The tour Guide Geoff was an extremely entertaining and informative, Great tour for most people and well worth the drive off the highway.

Interesting and informative - Geoff was a - great guide and very entertaining, off the beaten track - nice and quiet. Excellent cave formations - worth the trip.

Went down with the family and one other group and had a brilliant tour. Geoff was fantastic, encouraging the children and gave it that personal touch. The formations on display are amazing and well worth the visit.

Gunns plains Cave is 42 Km from Devonport (Tasmania) via the Bass Highway and Ulverstone. The drive was scenic, and Gunns Plain was like an oasis in the mountains. The limestone Cave is 1km further on, and is in a State Park. Interpretive guided tours depart hourly from 10.00am. Geoff was out guide. He was part of the wonderful experience, sharing his extensive knowledge of caving, and the Gunns Plains Cave in particular. It would not be incorrect to say that it was a unique guided tour. After 54 steps down into the cave, the walkway extended some 275 meters into the cave. The display of the stelactites, stelagmites, columns, shawls, straws and multiple other formations as well as glow worms, are more diverse than found in most other limestone caves throughout the world. At the floor of the cave is the flowing stream that over millions of years caused the cave to develops. It was, indeed, a unique guided tour, at minimal cost.
