In a rear display room of the Shell Road House is a replica of a Great White Shark caught in the 90's before the hunting of them was banned. It is about 5m in length and weighed about 1.5 tonne. There are newspaper clipping of the event. There is also information about other marine life in the area. Well worth a 15 minute visit.

It is only a replica but it is over 1,500 kg and was caught on a 24 kg line. Amazing! Worth a quick stop to have a look and read the articles.

Located within the Sterwarts Road House in Alfred Terrace.View the 1.5 tonne replica of a shark, that was actually caught by rod and reel.It is free entry to do as it is part of the roadhouse, which also has good food and coffee.

At the Streaky Bay Roadhouse, way in back, behind the souvenirs and toilets, is a separate room for this replica of the largest great white shark caught by rod and reel. You can stick your head in its mouth!

Streaky Bay shot into the headlines when a 5 metre long, 1,520 kg shark was caught in April 1990 by a young local fisherman after a 5 and a quarter hour struggle. The mature female shark was caught 22 kilometres off shore from Streaky Bay and then it took 3 hours to tow it back into the bay where it was weighed on the wheat silos scales. The most surprising thing about this catch was that it was caught on a fishing rod and reel with just a 24 kg line. The shark was estimated to be 16 to 18 years old, There is a life size replica of the world's largest white pointer shark caught on a rod and reel on display at the visitor information centre, along with some other interesting things caught around the area..

This is a replica of a shark caught by a local lad with just his fishing rod! Set up in the back room of the Shell service station, someone has gone to some trouble to make this and gather some information. Worth a look and it's free!:-)
