visited here as a couple on Sunday morning. They greeted us on arrival in walking up to the cellar door even though there was already some larger groups already tasting. Virginia and Charlie both spent plenty of time with us talking about the wines, their history, life in the Barossa and many other things for at least an hour - they were so welcoming and friendly, such nice people. We loved the Father in Law Shiraz and Nine Popes GSM and bought some of them - we could easily have bought more (and probably will do by mail order in future !!).I am so glad a friend in Adelaide recommended this winery - I had never heard of them before but we will surely remember now !!!

we were lucky to have a contact that arranged for us to meet with Charlie and his wife Virginia. They were excellent hosts and the wines of a very high quality

Didn't dine in the restaurant but did taste the wines and even bought some. Have since enjoyed a few and will be ordering more by post. Lovely winery to visit with helpful and knowledgeable staff.

Lunchtime at the Barossa.Rang 6 minutes away to see if they could handle 10 of us. Give them 10 mins to finish with another group and it won't be a problem.Out on the verandah and seated comfortably. The menu might be a bit of a concern I thought as the prices were up the higher end and my friends not used to Australian dining.Problem? Not a 1.The service was flawless. The menu varied enough and absolutely worth it.The wine with the meal. An entrée of some bread with oil, olives and capers was a treat. The wine we ordered wasn't available but the replacement (more expensive but no extra charge as an apology emphasised their sincerity).I was fortunate to get some tastings from other plates and all other meals being superb.I won't go into the details about all the meals BUT just to say that to hear a 20 year old talk about the amazing taste of the pork for 2 days is enough said to me.Very relaxing. One of the highlights of my trip to Adelaide and very much recommended. The road they are on also has other wineries to try and adds more ticks of places seen on your visit.

Especially if you like reds! The setting is also beautiful (as is the Barossa generally). We did not eat there but our friends did and thoroughly enjoyed it.

I am not a red wine drinker but judging the amount my husband and friends bought it is a wonderful example of great Barossa Shiraz!!

The nature of the tastings here are different as you sit around a wonderful old table while the staff attend to you. The wines are generally very good - the rose (Rose of Virginia) and G/S/M (Nines Popes) are by far and away the best you'll find. Lunch, in the form of tatsing platters, is available on the terrace. Just outside the tasting room are some fantastic old bush vines, which are not that common these days. If you're really lucky Charlie Melton might wander through and stop for a chat.

It's not always the dearest wines that are the best, try the 2012 Farther in Law Shiraz, you won't be disappointed.

The wine tasting staff give you their full attention and treat you well. The wines are not cheap, but you get what you pay for.

We've spent eight days both in Barossa and McLaren Vale. And we did lots of tastings. In this review you will read my opinion about the wines. But since wine is very much about personal taste, it doesn't necessarily mean that you will share my opinion. You might hate the wine I liked and vice versa. So much about that, here we go:This Winery is located in a very nice and quiet spot. Nice views. There's also a restaurant, which looked very promising, but we weren't hungry yet, so we went straight to the Tasting Room. And this one is a bit different from others. There's one huge table inside.....think medieval style. And everybody is being seated there....being part of a tour or individuals. So this means you will enjoy your tasting sitting down.C. Melton has a nice selection of good, affordable wines. Not the richest, heaviest ones, but good wines to enjoy on any day. Very good and very good priced was the "Father In Law". A nice and easy Shiraz. The Highlight for us was the "Rose of Virginia". A Rosé....probably the best we've ever had. The color is already striking.....and the flavour: what a mouthful! So much fruit, so much flavour....unexpected heavy for a Rosé. We enjoyed it very very much. Not to be missed.Too bad one of their flagships, the "Nine Popes" was sold out and not being served that day.All in all a very nice winery with friendly and helpful staff. Recommended!Wanna know more about me and my trips? Check my profile!

We went for lunch. Delicious pies. I'm not a pie person but these were Devine. Not to heavy or fatty. Tasted great with the wine. Lamb pies wins my vote

While on our visit at the Barossa Valley in South Australia, myself and my girlfriend had visited some wineyards, on one street there are a few of them, and we stopped by here to visit. It was great, very easy to drive in, a lot of open air views, the building has a restaurant and a huge table for people to sample the wines, but we sat next to the wall with a fireplace and tried them there. The staff that work at Charles Melton are very nice and knowledgeable people, making us feel welcome and explaining different types of wines. I thoroughly recommend it.

Love this place. Have been to the cellar door a number of times now & have really enjoyed every experience. Outstanding wines, delicious food, really great service & beautiful surroundings. I highly recommend you pay Charles Melton Wines a visit if you are in the Barossa, you will not be disappointed.

Great lunch with homemade pies. Scrumptious relish and shiraz sauce which we bought as well as wine from cellar door. Staff very accommodating.
