Yes, it is the south end of SH1, the backbone of NZ's Road Network. A souvenir for visitors (by taking photos) of this sign post, plus an awesome view of Foveaux Strait and Stewart Island at the far background. But, that's all.

took a picture and did the silly touristy pictures, afterwards we went for a walk around near the coast. Awesome walking path that follows off from the car park, climbed around on the rocks near the water and then walked around and saw the scenery for a bit. Was quite a nice activity

After the long trek to get down to Bluff, a photo stop at the signpost is a must do. Beautiful ocean views and a great cafe right next to it.

We were here during the weekend of the Oyster Festival which they held up next to where the oyster boats come in, we stayed across the road at Landsend Boutique Hotel, Sterling Point being the most southern end of Highway 1 over looking the Foreaux straits some of the most treacherous at times, wonderful to come take photos also a path track up to a lookout, we never did high winds were blowing around at the time and it was that go through you cold....

It's the end of the read, before taking some light walking in the bushes up to the top pf the Hill. The signs are all yellow and if the sun shine and there is a blue sky, it's fantastic as souvenir snap shot of the ocean with the signpost facing the sea.Bluff is rather a boring village with not much to do, and you will end up there anyway. It's easy to find the yellow signpost, because it's the very end of the village main road called Marine Parade Road, along the seashores, all the way to the very end. A GOOD SOUVENIR snap shot OF BLUFF VILLAGE.

We had already done Cape Reinga (North Island) so had to do Stirling Point as we were in the area on the way to Slope point etc. there was not a lot open this was probably due to it being New Year’s Eve, but SLAP on the anti-sand fly lotion we got bit to pieces as a welcome to the area

Worth the drive to Sterling point to see the signpost at the end of SH1, and walk around past the 'chain' to the old lighthouse / signal station where there are some interesting history boards to read. While at Bluff be sure to drive to the LOOKOUT which in January had EXCELLENT 360 degree views of the area incl in the Aluminium Smelter and Stewart Island in the distance. The work that's been done on the lookout path is much apprecitated - pin pointing things of interest to look out for.

Well it is not the southernmost point of the south island (that is Slope Point about 50 km away) it it the end of NZ Hwy 1 and has an interesting signpost. There is also a nice little park for walking.

Probably reflects the fact that it is about as far south as you can go on the mainland - luckily we didn't get the blustery conditions the others got but difficult nonetheless to believe it is summer here.A little more history here would help as obviously the area is steeped in history -looks to have been established about 1824 and it would have been a fascinating fishing and shipping town.

This sign post is a great pointer to places more well known and recognised. Great photo opportunities and brilliant views across Foveaux Straits. A little more on history boards would have just made this site excellent.

The day we visited it was very blustery and cold. It was a clear day and worth the drive to get to the point. The sign post was great and lots of photos taken. It was only a 10 minute stop, however worth the drive. We spent some quality time in the second hand shop. Pity the stained glass panels don't fit in the suitcase. Make sure you're wearing a windcheater.
