Maison de nos Aieux (roughly House of our Ancestors), was established to record the history of the founding families of Ile d'Orleans. It contains genealogical records for the 300 families, who arrived over 350 years ago. There is a fee for a tour and access to the genealogical records. There are several interesting books in the gift shop in both French and English related to the local history, and also to the filles du roy (young girls sent in the early days of settlement to marry the male settlers). The beautiful Parc des Ancetres adjoining the Maison, has an impressive sculpted tribute to the founders, and a terrific view of the St. Lawrence as it passes the northern shore of the island.
