Delightful sunset cruise on a restores schooner ......passengers can relax or help with raising the sails. Proceeds from the ticket price help to fund the Rosway's educational programs for youth. Well-trained staff is welcoming and extremely informative

What a great mission statement! They offer this experience to under served youth who would otherwise not be given this opportunity! They also give experience to students working towards their sailing goals! We even got to help the crew put up the masts! Wow that's a lot of work and we really weren't doing the brunt of it! Beautiful sailing and loved the experience! This is a must do activity!

We spent a great afternoon in St. Croix sailing the Roseway which is a beautiful old restored schooner that is part of the World Ocean School. The captain and crew were talented and personable and passengers were invited to help raise the sails. No mean feat. The winds were blowing and seas were high which gave us a true sense of sailing on a schooner. The waves crashed over the bow and sides of the boat and we got wet and we rocked and we rolled and we loved every minute. An experience of a lifetime.

We have been on the Roseway many times and enjoyed it every time. It is a relaxing sail that gives you a chance to see St. Croix from a different perspective. You really see how large this island is when you are at sea. The crew is wonderful and they have lots of info and historical stories to share. If you are lucky enough to be on island during the time Roseway is there you should not miss an afternoon sail with them!

The Roseway is only in St. Croix a few months a year from January until April, when they move up to Boston. They are an educational boat for a non-profit called World Ocean School. The crew on the boat are college age or just older people who spend six months to a year of two sailing her before moving on having had what I would think was the experience of their lives. The schooner sails from the Port Authority docks in Christiansted. They offer sunset sails several times a week, but since they are also doing educational programs with the local schools, and they do private charters, you need to contact them for reservations. The sail was lovely, and if you have never been out on a very large boat under sail, it is an experience not to miss. They have one of the crew give a history lecture for about 20 minutes of the trip if you are interested, but my husband and I were listening to one of the older crew member's stories of being in the Coast Guard for 30 years. It was a relaxing trip and a great way to see the island from afar from sea level.

The Roseway is a beautiful wooden ship. 137 feet long and still operated in the original way. Passengers get to help hoist the sails. Trip is 2 1/2 hours long. Great way to see the coast of St. Croix. Left at 4pm and returned at 6:30 pm so we say the sun setting over the island. Smooth sailing all the way. The crew was wonderful and we loved the trip. Our only disappointment was buying the beverage/snack voucher which for $10 got you 2 alcoholic drinks(rum punch) or 3 other items- non-alcoholic or a snack which were cans of pop and a poor selection of snacks in very small bags. So for $3.33 that was not worth it. Bring your own snacks and drinks in a small backpack.

Friends gave us this sunset cruise as a gift for our birthdays. Incredible ship, crew is fantastic and knowledgeable, and the Captain is a real professional. Great cruise (wish it were longer) for a great cause. A "must-do" when visiting St Croix.

Roseway is the BEST activity on St. Croix. The captain is SO good with kids; the whole experience is SO interactive. May they stay forever!!

We've been on the Roseway twice, and it is a really great time. It is a fantastic way to view the island. The crew is always welcoming, informative and funny. The bonus of this ship is that they are all about teaching children about sailing. What better reason to support them?

Great sail on historic boat. We were lucky to go on a particularly windy day, so the sailing was magnificent...but definitely not a no-key relaxing experience. Your enjoyably of the experience will depend a lot on what the weather is like, and whether you want to experience a true sailing experience, or just have a casual day out on the water. The crew is great, and the boat is gorgeous.

This is a gorgeous old fishing ship, redone as an educational endeavor. We had a great sail, the crew were enthusiastic and informative, and part of the fare goes to support their educational trips for local kids. Love it!

We saw the 1930's ship sailing from our condo and wondered what it was. After a google search and phone call we found it was really affordable and planned to go the next night. We got there and were cheerfully greeted by the staff of recent college graduates from the states. After a short wait in a gross lobby of the port (not Roseway) we boarded the boat. Everyone was really friendly and asked where we were from, the kids names, just genuinely interested in everyone boarding the boat. We went with our two kids 4 and 7. The staff encouraged everyone to help raise the sails and my kids loved it! I enjoyed the rum punch ! My son even helped raise the front (small) sail to cheers from everyone on board. Once the sails went up the staff was walking around talking about the history of the boat, the mission of the Roseway, and we talked to families from Denmark and around the US. It was very relaxed. The bathroom was rather interesting but is on about a 70 year old boat! The views of the island were great and it was gorgeous watching the sunset. My son also got to sit and "drive" the boat! He was so proud! Everyone on the crew was amazing! Thank you! (sorry I butchered all the sailing terms!)

I went on the sunset sail on the Roseway and I will definitely go again. It was very cool. The staff was friendly and they gave history of the boat. It was something I had never done before. Awesome experience.

Our family of nine gathered on St Croix for Christmas, 2011. One highlight was our evening ride on the Roseway which sailed out of Christianstad harbor at 4:30 and returned just after sunset. It's a beautiful, historic boat staffed by enthusiastic young sailors who signed on for the adventure and education. The tickets were $45 a piece, but half of that is tax deductible due to the educational nature of the Roseway's mission. They encouraged us the hoist the sails, and everyone from my 16 year old son to 83 year old mother did so enthusiastically... I've got some great pictures of the event! the biggest turnoff of the evening was the captain, who maintained a condescending, amusement park, I've-done-these-jokes-so-many-times-I-could-do-them-in-my-sleep tone of voice, from welcoming us on board to encouraging us to tip the staff on the way out. We all found it grating and not appropriate for such a classy operation

Visitors and residents of St. Croix experienced a rare treat this season -- sailing aboard the National Historic Landmark Schooner "The Roseway". We first saw The Roseway moored majestically in Christiansted Harbor this past December - 137 foot over-all length, two tall wooden masts, with all the rigging - looking like she'd sailed right out of the Caribbean's past. My wife, Terry, vowed she had to sail on that ship. To our delight, they were booking educational day-cruises. There was a daily noon sail, and a sunset sail on weekends. During the the week, she takes school kids out in the afternoon, teaching them about sailing, tall ships, and maritime history. Our first opportunity to sail was the afternoon of the Cruzan Christmas Carnival Parade out in Frederiksted. The Roseway made the sail west in the morning. We took the sunset sail from the Frederiksted pier. After a brief introduction, all able-bodied passengers were conscripted to help hoist the sails. The Roseway has over 5500 sq. ft. of heavy canvas sails and wooden booms as big as utility poles. All this is hauled up the 100+ foot mast by hand. We were lined up in two teams, either side of the mast. On our leaders signal we hauled the line hand over hand as fast as we could and watched the massive maroon main sail rise and unfurl. As it neared the top of the mast , we slowed and started pulling on cadence to make those last few feet, "Heave, Ho". We helped with the two largest sails, then left the rest to the crew, "Whew!"Once the sails are up, the bar is open! Before you board, you have the option to purchase drink/snack tickets for $10, good toward any combination of 5 drinks or snacks. They have a limited selection of adult beverages, sodas and signature "Roseway" bottled water (I was a little wary of where that might come from, so I stuck with the rum punch), as well as chips, Cheeto's, etc.The rest of our two hour voyage we enjoyed the wind in our hair, the sights of Frederiksted waterfront, the thrill of sailing an historic wooden sailing schooner, and speaking to the crew. They were very knowledgeable about the vessel and its history and openly shared with us their experiences on "The Roseway". We enjoyed it enough to go out again for Terry's birthday in February. The Roseway is owned and operated by the World Ocean School, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing educational opportunities to youths and adults in the areas of maritime and natural history, sailing, team building, and ethical decision-making. The day-sail tours help to finance their educational programs. As far as I know, they'll be heading north soon for the summer season, but are trying to make St. Croix their permanent winter home.
