My husband and I did the river tubing/caving adventure, and it was our favorite activity the entire 2 weeks we spent in PR! Our guide was Noel, and he was awesome! You do have to be in moderate shape to do this activity, mostly because there is an up hill hike both to and from the river. Each way takes anywhere from 40 minutes to a little over an hour depending on the speed of your group. We were the only two in our group so it was great! Got to go our speed the whole time. If you find you're in a large group, might be worth the fee to do a private your if you're in pretty good shape. I recommend wearing clothing that dries fast, plain swimsuit is fine but if you want more coverage then use like a rash guard so you fry fast. You get in and out of the water quite a bit and the water is very cold so you'll be getting "rewet" often. I also wore wind shorts over top of my bottoms to help prevent snagging of my suit since you may drag bottom if you forget to lift your butt, which the guide reminds you to do a lot! There isn't a lot of sun exposure so we skipped the sunscreen and were perfectly fine. The float is very fun with some great rapids. The first few waterfalls are the best. You can also jump off a cliff if you want, there is a high and low option. Your also go through caves which is really cool, and headlamps are provided. The scenery all along the way is beautiful! Guide provides a small snack half way through, but if you may want to bring something extra in case you end up in a slow group. Don't bring anything that can't get wet. Guide brings a go pro and takes lots if great pics along the way for you. Overall a very fun trip that is a must if you are in decent shape! If you know you'll be slow, be courteous and pay for a private tour so as not to slow the whole group down. Same goes for you if you are in great shape and don't want to get held up, go for the private tour!

The Tanama River Tour is one of the best tours I've done in Puerto Rico. My husband and I have lived here for 6 months (doing activities pretty much every weekend) and this is one of the most fun times we've had. We went with a few of our friends who were in town visiting and they had a blast. It is more intense than I thought it would be but that is mainly because of the hour hike to the river and then an hour hike (mostly uphill) back to our cars. The hike is definitely long but worth it. They give you backpacks, with your deflated raft, to carry so you can put some of your things in the bag. It will get SOAKED so don't bring things that can't get wet unless they are waterproofed. I'd recommend good soled shoes because of the hike, but some that can also get wet for the river. I wore chacos and my husband wore vibrams. The water is COLD. We went at the beginning of December and while it is not too cold to get in the ocean water, the river water was very cold. I would recommend a long sleeved rash guard and long pants with material made to get wet/dry quickly. Bring something for lunch. Double sandwich bag it and it may be ok in your backpack, but the guides have a dry bag they can put it in as well. The guides are so awesome! They were very nice and knowledgable on how to stay safe. It is a lot of getting in the water and then getting out. So you get wet and then dry off then get back in the cold water again. (All of this is worth the trip, I am just preparing you!) Some rapids only allow for one person at a time, so we had to get out and wait until each person went down. LIFT YOUR BOOTY! They do keep reminding you of this throughout the trip but there were two times where I lifted up my butt... just not high enough! I had a large bruise on my butt cheek for about a week afterwards haha. (Again, still worth it!) The rapids are really awesome.... not your normal, float down the river with a cooler tied to your raft, kind of trip. It was so much fun.The scenery is amazing. I kept saying that it feels like we are in Jurassic Park because of the beautiful, untouched by humans, landscape. You also float through some caves where you need headlamps (provided by the guides). It doesn't seem that dark though because everyone's headlamps light the way! The bats are cool to see and hear. There are some other more open caves you float down that are calm near the end which was very beautiful and relaxing. There is one spot at the beginning of the trip where you have the option of jumping in from a lower level (see one of my photos) or a much higher level. I believe there is also a way to walk around this part so you don't have to jump if you don't want to, but no one in our group skipped that part. I love that the guides take a GoPro. They email you a link to all the photos a few days after the trip and they are awesome!

We went to the Tanama River Tour and the Adventure was over our expectactions, this is by far one of the best experience you can live in Puerto Rico. The tour guide (Noel) is a very friendly guy. To view the video of our adventure in youtube, visit this link: http://youtu.be/rzwxIa2yxIw

My friends and I recently did their Arecibo tour through the Tanamá river. It was an amazing experience and I would recommend it to anyone looking for an adventure. We went tubing down the Tanamá river and into different caverns. This trip was the closest I've ever been to bats and I just fell in love with them. The guides were incredibly nice and helped everyone in my group throughout the whole trip. The whole group agreed that we would do more tours with them!

I went on their Caving Adventure in Arecibo and had the most amazing time! The tour guides are incredible people who really seem to love what they do! Even though they've done it dozens of times, they still seem to enjoy the adventure along with the customers.Noel and Maria were incredibly friendly and helpful, made our entire group feel right at home while doing something completely new to us. I think the tour guides are really what sets Westide Adventures apart from others. They were very careful to watch the weather conditions and kept us updated days before to ensure that our chosen date was safe. They were also very supportive whenever someone hesitated on something, and were always on the lookout for our safety. The Caving Adventure in Arecibo was a fantastic experience, we got to experience some incredible sights right here in Puerto Rico. I would recommend that particular adventure for people under 40, since the hike to and from the river can be a bit tiresome, but it was an incredible experience!

My 9 year old son has always had something with the outdoors. I wanted to give him something special so I did some research on the internet and found WSA. We had never done this before but thought that he might enjoy it so I made the reservations. Let me tell you that the tour guide, Noel, is the best. Very friendly and helpful. We got to the location and had to hike for an hour for our first drop. My son wanted to go first so after a brief lesson with Noel, my son got geared up and started to do down the cliff. At first he was really scared but once he did it, I told my brother that the others will be a piece of cake. I can go on for ever and tell you about this place. The guides are the best, the location is beautiful, the water is crystal clear even at 20 feet. It is cold but great. At the end of the last cliff, we got a chance to jump off a huge rock around 20 - 30 feet high into the crystal clear pond. Once we did the whole thing, we had to hike back to the vehicles, yeah for an hour. Take along plenty of water and food, you will go through it, trust me. And a water proof camera. They take pics along the way and they do send them to you but it is always good to have your own camera. Once we got back to the vehicles, Noel told the group that my son was the youngest person ever to do this in his outfit, he is only 9 and the record before was 12. He made my son feel very special and that is something that he will never forget. We are going back in a couple of weeks to do the 250 drop into a cave then another 65 feet drop deeper. I am told to bring flashlights and glow sticks because you can't even see your hand in front of your face. I recommend that if you visit Puerto Rico, make the drive to the other side of the island and book this adventure, you will not regret it.

First and foremost I love supporting individuals that are or once were prior service (military). Once learned that one of the owner's served in the Navy I was sold! Now on to the fun stuff. I considered myself fit and NEVER have repelled or climbed vertical walls. It was my 30 birthday and I wanted to live life on the edge and do a real adventure. I spent countless hours researching and I mean countless... we all know when you search the same ones come out. So I checked all those out one by one I wasn't happy with what the tour was offering or price tag. I found one but the cost was through the roof $165 per person!!!!! Ya, I wanted an adventure but not at the expense of my wallet! I somehow randomly found Puerto Rico Westside Adventures. Unlike the other extreme tours this one did not have a lot of reviews but had excellent ratings... at first I thought maybe they went out of business... at which time I was super bummed. The tours they offered seemed just like what I wanted! Oh ya and the PRICE was below $100 per person which hey we all are trying to save ;). Anyways, the cave tour is actually fairly new and that is why it does not have as many reviews as the other tours that have been around a lot longer. I will not spoil it but all I can say I am in the military and have had a tour in Afghanistan and this was an adrenaline junkies dream. Oh if you're afraid of heights DO NOT do it!! 280ft repel. If you're claustrophobic then DO NOT do it!! You have to crawl in tight areas in some spots. If you're not fit DO NOT do it!! it is very physical. I cannot say enough good things about this tour company, the owner, and the guides. I felt safe at all times and the tour guides were pleasant to be around. I LOVE IT and can't wait to go back to do their other tours!!!!!!
