Charging $130 plus tax plus tip = $158 for a Swedish massage. Ok, it's in a resort hotel, but the place is bruised and not kept up. A paint job would do wonders for this place. Locker area was never replenished. Toilets kept running and didn't always have toilet paper in the stalls. Showers were moldy and water never got hot. Had to constantly ask for shavers. Relaxation room was old and didn't have comfortable chairs. They are in the process of renovating the west wing of the hotel - which is above the spa, so there is constant noise. Ok, this happens, but do let the clients know that this is going on. And maybe give a discount? OK, get the picture? Now for the employees. Two receptionists - Lillian and Lola. Lillian was a doll, Lola not so much. It always felt as if Lola hated being there. I was fortunate enough to have a massage a week for 10 weeks. It took me 4 weeks to finally find a therapist who was good. Her name is Merarys, and trust me, she is the only one to go with. I had 4 others, a friend had 1 and my daughter had 2. It was the first time my daughter actually said the massage was horrible. From bad breath, to whatever, these therapists were terrible. This place needs a major overhaul from redoing the spa to finding decent therapists.

My husband arrived to the resort with a terrible backache. He called the resort as soon as they opened in the morning and they got him right in. He love his massage and felt much better afterwards, which allowed him to enjoy the rest of our vacation

this spa offers the usual amenities expected at a luxury spa, with attentive staff and professional, friendly and expert massage therapies. There is a well-equiped gym (cardio machines and free weights) The spa is nicely maintained with a reasonable price point. I didn't have a chance to see if there was a dry sauna on site.

Spouse had a Bali massage which was one of their signature massages and spoke highly of it. They were offering it at a discounted price as a special.

This is an expensive spa option, and I'm saying this coming from NYC where there are plenty of expensive spa options. But my friend and I were determined to have massages before heading back to the big apple, so expensive or not, we went ahead and booked a Balinese and a Swedish massage. The massages were great - no complaints. The massage therapists were professional, prompt and the experience couldn't be better. They do a little selling of the optional ad-ons, but not a hard sell. The showers were questionable - and no one offered/asked if we wanted to use the sauna before or after our massages. One thing that we were a little frustrated with was the lack of people at the front desk. When we called from our room to book an appointment (3 times in total), it went to voicemail and no one got back to us when we did leave a voicemail. When we went to the spa first to check out the services and then to book in person - there was no one at the front desk, we had to hunt for someone.I think the spa would benefit by adding their services in the room menus. It was a good, not great, experience.

Had a fill, they do all the work by hand so it takes much longer that you may be used to, but a nice job although a bit expensive

Too expensive, lack of quality! Too much oil not enough massage! Very unprofessional, staff chatting with each other overlooking customers. Wasn't relaxing at all, I was more stressed when I left! Nothing worked, low water pressure, took 6 minutes for the water to get warm.... Sauna not working. The tea was hit, I guess that's where my $ went....

We just returned from 6 days at the Westin Rio Mar and treated ourselves to a spa treatment for each of four consecutive days. Overall, the staff was warm, friendly and talented. Alexis at the front desk was charming and loved to talk with the guests as you waited. Hilda, who greeted and oriented you, was warm and friendly. The massage staff is outstanding. I had two massages, the 4 hand massage and the Balinese massage. The 4 hand massage was like something I've never experienced before...2 massage therapists working together with you. I had Freddy and Millie (also known as Anna) and they were amazing. As noted in another review, Freddy is an extremely talented massage therapist and he couples that with a caring persona. The Balinese massage was enjoyable as well and Maryanga is a very good therapist, just nothing could compare with the 4 hand.My travel companion had the Hot Rocks massage with Carlos and made special note that it was extremely good as well.As far as the other services, the pedicure was fairly standard and the cellutox treatment could simply not live up to the massages. All in all, I've had a lot of spa experiences and I would encourage everyone to give the Mandara Spa a try, particularly the massages.

I visited The Westin Rio Mar July 4 thru July 8, 2005. My stay was quite relaxing. While there I visited the Mandara Spa and received a FABULOUS 50 minute professional Swedish Massage from Freddy. I've been a professional massage therapist for the past 6 years and so I consider myself somewhat of an expert in the field--- so please, trust me on this; ask for Freddy!! You won't regret it!!He has wonderful hands. His touch is skilled, confident, and soothing. I wish I could have brought him back home with me!! Otherwise, the spa is very well kept. The front desk staff is friendly and helpful. The ambience is ideal. Enjoy!!

My teen age daughter and I visited the Westin Rio Mar Resort in late November 2004 and loved the attention we received at the Mandara Spa. We booked the treatments prior to arrival at the hotel and the treatments were fanastic. There was a problem with the reservations but I believe it was due to the fact that the spa had just been open a few days prior to our arrival. The facial treatments that we received were wonderful. The attendants pleasant and the surroundings beautiful and very relaxing.I could see how one could get addicted to all the attention. The products used at the spa are from Elemis and we enjoyed them so much we continue to purchase the various products.Wish we could go back and escape for a few days
