dapitan city plaza

Its a very long travel from cagayan de oro to reach Dapitan but all worth it when you get there. there's a lot to discover in that city. its quite yet fun.

Not so much interest here except for the Map of Mindanao made by Rizal which is not being cleaned. Dont go on the noontime cause its really hot and you want to get back to your airconditiones ride Imediately.

The Dapitan City Plaza is like many another except for a feature added by Dr. Jose Rizal himself - the Mindanao relief map he created in the corner closest to St. James .church.Even today, far more than 120 years ago, many people have not visited much beyond their own locality. Rizal's map of Mindanao helps the observer to form an accurate mental impression of the features it represents. Our six year old grandson was able to 'walk around Mindanao' and now knows where both Davao and Zamboanga are situated.

We had our dinner in one of the restaurant that served chicken bar-b-que. There were restaurants lined up in the plaza however all were full as people seemed to flock in the plaza at night. Souvenir shops were all abound, so there is no problem looking for something to bring back home, prices however is high. There is a cockpit arena in the plaza, which I believed should have not been built there as it is not a healthy sight for visitors especially for the young ones.

The park was designed by the the country's hero, JOSE RIZAL. It is a european design park with green landscape and spanish lights. Very clean and relaxing. More like you are in europe than philippines. The church faces the park
