Since I live in Las Tablas, Panama I suppose that I ought to review more of the local attractions, particularly the Church that my wife and I attend. Iglesia Santa Librada is a Spanish Colonial style church, originally built by Spanish colonists in 1789. It was rebuilt after an earthquake in 1802. It is located on the town square of Las Tablas (Parque Porras) and named after Santa Librada the patron saint of the city of las Tablas and the Province of Los Santos. It is white stucco with the traditional tile roof. I can see daylight looking up through the roof, but the rain seems to stay out. The tile roof is supported by a wood structure and there are a few wood columns inside, but they do not significantly impact the view of the gold altar. The altar in this type of church comprises most of the back wall and this in no exception. It is entirely plated with real gold and was refurbished only recently. There are a number of large statues of saints, including Santa Librada, who also has several small statues as well. The pews are old style and made of wood; and not particularly comfortable. There is an ornate wood pulpit which, unfortunately, is not used anymore. The church is a beautiful, and popular, photo opportunity and a marvelous example of Spanish Colonial architecture as it appears in the rural areas. There are a number of fancy (like a church with a gold altar isn’t fancy) Spanish Colonial churches in Casco Viejo and other parts of Panama City. Iglesia Santa Librada is certainly worth the effort to visit.

Una de las más hermosas iglesias, se puede sentir toda la tradición y cultura de ese pueblo, la arquitectura es muy colonial, y en la entrada junto a la virgen esta parte de la historia de como llego al pueblo de Las Tablas
