I contacted Senor Raul, the director of Nicaragua Spanish lessons and he was able to make arrangements to get me to Granada, from Managua, and provide housing in Granada with only 2 days notice. I have found the school to be quite nice, and challenging. My goal is to go from a non-Spanish speaker to a moderate skill level in 4 months. I think the Nicaragua Spanish Lessons will get me there.

What a great experience! I worked with Yenley for several weeks and it was absolutely great. Yenley and all of the teachers at Nicaragua Spanish lessons know how to gauge your learning level and design the perfect curriculum for each student. I was so happy that I didn't simply go to a Spanish school in central granada, just because it was in a convenient location. Raul, Darling and Yenley are all helpful and trustworthy people. I would highly recommend short-term and long-term visitors to Granada to take advantage of the great language-learning experience that is offered at NSL.

My three week trip to Granada was incredible. The school is pleasant and the teachers are exceptional. In particular my teacher Elisa was one of the best teachers I have had and I have had many. I really learned Spanish on my activities with Darling and by the time I finished my lessons I was able to take autobuses and taxis by myself.

I traveled in Nicaragua for 3 months, starting at NSL in Granada with Raul Gavarrette and Darling Perez. When we did the excursions with Darling, we learned HOW to get around the way locals do. This was a huge help for the rest of our time in Nicaragua. Darling was friendly and I loved getting to practice my Spanish on the excursions in addition to during class and at my home stay.My teachers were terrific. You have to understand that you are in Nicaragua. You are in the 2nd poorest country in the Western hemisphere. If you want teachers who are certified / trained in HOW to teach effectively, look for that in the Spanish school that you choose. Maybe even consider it in the country that you choose to go to. Finding a school with teachers who are trained in how to teach is difficult (impossible?) in Nicaragua. But you can't beat the value there. My children were with me. While NSL was very accommodating and my children certainly benefited from the experience, it would have been better to put them in some type of program rather than trying to subject them to 4 hours of not child-friendly Spanish lessons. (true of other Spanish school we visited too)I expected Granada to be super touristy, and it is. But we still felt immersed in the local culture and had unlimited opportunities to practice our Spanish. Even the staff at Hotel Granada, one of the nicer hotels and quite expensive, do not speak English (which I consider a benefit since I was in Nicaragua to learn Spanish). I loved that in Granada we could be part of the local culture, but also have access to leg waxing (full leg $20) and the option of a day pass to swim in hotel pool.

I was in Nicaragua for a month and had overestimated my spanish skills, so basically I was having a hard time since I had arrived. I was referred to Raul Gavarrette by two sisters who had taken a crash course with him and had only positive things to say about the lesson and the teacher. So I contacted Raul via email and was not disappointed at all. He offered to meet me at my hostel, which was super energy-and-time-saving for me. I had two lessons of two hours. It helped me more than I could've hoped. He immediately adapted his content to my level of spanish, and we agreed to focus on two things: basic travel vocabulary and verbs, especially irregular verbs. It made a real difference. Raul is very dynamic, very fun. It was a real pleasure! Thank you, Raul. You litterally saved my trip! Hasta luego! ;)

I went to Granada knowing just a few words in Spanish. My private 4-hour crash course in Granada with the most dynamic teacher - Raúl Gavarrette - he is excellent at what he does. The session at Granada School of Spanish was intense but worth every minute. Raúl adapted his content immediately to my level of knowledge which made it easy for me and allowed me to get around with the language during my trip. His school has a friendly atmosphere yet very professional. The staff welcome was genuine; even if we were there for a short stay, they organized a full day excursions for both of us & recommended a small hotel nearby closed to everything. I'd recommend Raúl's Granada School of Spanish to anyone looking to study Spanish in a beautiful colonial city. I'll be back! Micheline.
