This museum has an extensive exhibit of prehistoric man for the lanzhou area. i was rather struck by the similarity of the pottery on display here and what I've seen in native indian exhibits in the USA. Also, there is an extensive dinosaur exhibit here. Another striking thing I noticed in this museum was the large number of bills thrown to religious artifacts

This very new museum is very attractive .The historical exhibition is very rich . It contains a lot of items found in various tombs in Gansu Province . The most important is the wonderful "Flying horse" , a little bronze statue representing a galloping horse with a swallow under its hoof .There is also a paleological section with some dinosaurs skeletons . The most remarkable is the "Mamenkisaurus" , a very huge sauropod of 100 million years ago .

We run out of time, so allow a half day. We visited before we started the silk road so it was an excellent introduction. One of the best we have visited in china

Yesterday afternoon while on holiday in Lanzhou I decided to visitthe Lanzhou Museum as I'd been told about it by a Chinese acquaintance.Access to the museum is easy from the railway station by taking the numberone bus to 240 Qingyang Road (the Museum's location),or by taxi.for a modest 30CNYtourist price cab fare.If you're travelling by bus, make sure the driver understands you want to go to the Qingyang Road Museum otherwise you may end up at the Gansu Provincial Museum by mistake, which is on the same bus route.Entry to the museum is by free ticket, and the museum itself consists of threeshowrooms. In the first showroom there are some amazing old photos reflectingaspects of life in early twentieth century Lanzhou, and some really old interestingartefacts including cooking pots, utensils, figurines etcOver in the other showrooms which are essentially art galleries there are some really nice traditional style Chinese paintings on display.I really enjoyed going to this Museum in Lanzhou. The only downside is that it is a very small museum, and there isn't much information about the exhibits in English next to the displays. However in saying that, the museum is still very interesting and well worth a visit.Especially if someone hasn't much time to go to a big Museum such as the Gansu Provincial Museum.
