If you got little kids you must go here….saw lots of red Columbus monkeys up front and close and got some really nice pics….would certainly recommend a walk around the mangroves. Loved this as it was so very peaceful out here….never seen a mangrove before so this was a great experience for me. Would certainly recommend this as the kids loved this trip.If you are planning your day you may want to do the Jozani forest and Mangroves like we did followed by lunch at the Rock restaurant. This way you end up doing all of it on one day without having to make separate trips

Stopped by there on the way from stone town to paje. Asked a guide about the tours and information about the reserve. It was late in the day so we thanked him and said we would gladly come back another day. As we were leaving the parking lot we saw some monkeys in the trees so we took like ONE minute to look at them and took a few photos. The guide came running towards us said it was forbidden and that we all now had to face a payment a 100 dollars per person. It became even more uncofortable when a park guard came running with his rifle towards us. We were held "hostages" for about 45 minutes before they finally let us go (we refused to pay) We told them we will never come back. A very surreal experience on our vacation..

We had a interesting visit here, but for a while the red colomus monkeys wete vrty illusive. Having trekked back and forth for a while and only coming accross one monkey our guide explained that he was unhappy about not finding the monkeys and would not give up. He made a phone call to a colleague who then went off to locate a gruop of them. In the meantime,our guide took us off to the mangrove area where there is a boardwalk to view the mangroves from....the talk here was very interesting.The guide then took us to a group of monkeys which had been located by his colleague.....there were loads of them and they stayed around for quite a while so we were able to get lots of photos....they came down onto the ground right in front of us which was a real bonus.

On a day trip out of Stone Town we stopped at the Jozani forest reserve. The forest here is not spectacular, though there are some very pretty parts to it. The big attraction is the Red Colobus monkey population. After a short easy stroll with our guide we found ourselves in the midst of numerous monkeys, both Red Colobus and Sikes. The monkeys were not begging from us, but seemed very unconcerned by our presence. It is very amusing to watch them play a forage with in a few feet of you. Don't miss it!

Jozani forest is fantastic place where you can observed monkeys. Our guide was very clever and told us all information about forest and monkeys what we wanted.We could observed group of monkeys. Monkeys were very friendly and you could take many pictures of monkeys : ) The only disadvantage was weather - very hot, swelter but it was normal for Zanzibar : )

Beautufil place to visit! Its home of the red mokies and it has a think forest which receives rain atleast once every week and its a good place to go if you have never been to a rain forest. The guides are very helpful and I enjoyed listening to them explain the different plants and parts of the forest.

A complete visit to this beautiful park consists of 3 parts: a monkey viewing experience with a guide, a short ride and meandering stroll through the mangrove forest, and a hike on the park trails. Like most attractions that require fees in Zanzibar, tour guides are available, included in the price, and absolutely necessary to get the full experience. Most of the information and signage is fairly outdates (statistics from 1992), but the tour guide can provide excellent insight. The entrance fee was $10 USD. We tipped the tour guide about $2. First, he took us on a short walk around the visitors center to point out the families of Red Colobus monkeys. They were everywhere, but we had not spotted them without his expert eye. Then, we hopped on our own rental Vespa (scooters can be arranged from almost any hotel for about $4/day including the international driving permit) and followed him across the main road and down a dirt track to a board walkway that meanders through the mangrove swamp. Afterward, we returned to the visitor's center and hiked one of the main paths into the forest. They usually recommend taking a guide on the hike as well, since the signage is lacking and guests have become lost. We were allowed to go alone with some advice about staying on the trail and navigating in the forest. It was beautiful- most pleasant in the morning, but the shade of the canopy allowed us to hike until just after noon. The forest is managed collectively by the surrounding communities who ration its resources and preserve the dwindling area. Bottled water can be purchased in the park restaurant for 2,000 shillings (local shops sell it for 1,000 shillings). I recommend buying the bananas and peanuts from the women along the side of the road just outside the entrance. This park is a must-see that might not be around much longer.

Must do this,you will see a lot of monkeys,you will also see mangrove , wear good shoes(specially when the forest is wet

This small park is worth a visit - it costs $10 per person and a guide talks you on an hours nature walk - ifyou are lucky you get to see Red Back Colobus monkeys. we came across a family with 4 baby monkeys all play fighting we were allowed to go up close and watch them play and take photos but definitely (and respectfully) no touching. if you like wildlife its really quite interesting.

Went here by car when we were in Jambiani, Zanzibar. Drive was only 20 minutes. You have to pay a little entrance fee (about 7 dollars per person). Then you get a guide, who will walk with you and you will tip him afterwards. As our time was limited that day, we walked around for about an hour. We saw a whole group of monkeys (2 species) which were on the move and came right by above and beside us. Later on we drive a couple of minutes to the other side of the road for the mangrove forest, there's a boardwalk of about 1 km. Don't except too much of it all, but it's definitely a place worth to stop. There are toilets and some sort of restaurant. At the entrance of the park you can buy fruit if you're hungry.

Nice place for a visit something different then a beach. Good project to keep the monkey population and the forest intact.

We visited the forest on the way to the eastern coast, the place is well maintained and has lots of creatures and animal to look for. Part of your entry ticket is a forest guide which he will show you around and find the famous endogenous monkeys of Zanzibar. The location here is set wrong, as this is part of Zanzibar island and not Pemba Island.

After stuffing myself full of food, we went to the Jozani Forest to see the Red Colobus monkeys... and boy did we! We saw several groups in several areas and were able to get very close (but not intrusive) to them. It was also fun just kind of walking around in 'the bush'. Our guide was excellent, personable, friendly, and knowledgeable.

We did the small trail when visiting here and got to see the Sykes' Monkey as well as the Red Colobus Monkey. Also got to see a few elephant Shrews and various big bugs. It was great for me because it felt like walking in the jungle and I found the different trees, plants, flowers and animals to be interesting. One of the Colobus Monkey jumped down to the ground behind my wife and it's tail hit my leg as it went by me. That's how close you can get to them! The Mangrove forest part wasn't as interesting to me because of the limited wildlife, but the trees and plants were awesome to see.

Took a trip to the Jozani Forest at Zanzibar. were very Lucky to see lots of red colobuss apes just a few feet away. Part of the guided tour is a visit to the waterground, "tropical forest" and the mangrove forest. worthwhile taking the trip
