Set off Route 97 on a side road in a grove of trees, Serpent Ridge Vineyard is well worth the search. It has a comfortable tasting room with a small bar and a welcoming and knowledgeable staff. The tasting menu is interesting with whites and reds along with two dessert wines. The cabernet and albarino are the best choices from a limited menu. The tasting includes a souvenir glass. The Vineyard was started in 2007 but has changed hands recently. One of the new owners was pouring today and provided a great background on the place as well as the wines. It was a very enjoyable way to close off a long Saturday journey.

Friendly atmosphere with lovely wines . A great place to pack a picnic and share a bottle of wine with friends. We visit as often as we can!

We were on our way to a B&B in November 2014 and another event was canceled, so we just looked for some vineyards and wineries near the B&B we were staying at. We looked up Serpent Ridge and dropped by for a tasting. It was a few bucks to taste 5 wines and you didn't get to select which wines you wanted to taste...it was 2 whites, 2 reds, and supposedly, a sweet dessert wine. I am not a red wine drinker and everyone is their own wine connoisseur, so I was disappointed in the dessert wine for not being sweeter or stronger. The hostess was very sweet, the ambiance was great for a weekend drive in the fall, but the vineyard is a young business, so they have limited products and their bottle are expensive compared to some other Maryland wineries and vineyards. I'd go back if I were in that area and had a small group with me cause the hostess was so nice, but would not otherwise go back on my own.

My mom and I were looking for something to do and we decided to check this place out. It is such a cute little place hidden behind the big beautiful Maryland trees! The vineyard is there right when you pull in and you can see the grapes on the vine. The lady serving was so friendly and nice. We did a wine tasting and for $5 you try all 6 wines and you get to keep the glass. The wines are dry and she told us that right away, we didn't mind. We like wine. Check this place out if you like wine and want to relax over a glass.

The setting just outside Westminster is pleasant but bordered by farm fields rather than vineyards. You must pay to taste but then keep your glass. We had heard good things about this winery but frankly were very disappointed. Prices are very high here. We purchased one red and when we opened it some time later, found it so awful (it literally tasted like dirt) that we poured it down the drain. Perhaps this winery will mature in time, but for now we are not going back. There are too many excellent wines from California and other US states/regions that offer much better value.

The tasting room is nice, and the staff are friendly and helpful. We have been to this winery several times and bring a picnic to enjoy outside. They have three picnic tables outdoors and some seating on the porch. Both times we have visited the owner came to our table and asked us what we were drinking, and one time topped off our glasses from his bottle. I enjoy their Basilisk and love the name, as well as the Slither dessert wine. Most of their wines are on the drier side.

The tasting room at Serpent Ridge, nestled in a bucolic area of central Maryland, is small, stylish, and welcoming. We paid $5 each to taste six wines. The price included a glass to take home for our growing collection. My favorite of the six was the light Seyval Blanc, while my husband fell for the Basilisk, a peppery red. We enjoyed a glass of each while relaxing in the comfortable seating area and chatting with the pleasant host. We plan a return visit next time we're in the area!

It is a lovely but tiny place - the staff are very friendly and it was lovely doing the wine tasting! They also sell cheese and chocolate which is nice

Located just south of Westminster in rural Carroll County, Serpent Ridge is only 25 minutes away from Baltimore. The winery specializes in small lots of handmade wine from grapes grown its own vineyards and other Maryland vineyards.Serpent Ridge consists of about two acres of grapes, allowing, according to the winery, a "hands-on" approach to wine making. Serpent Ridge's wine tasting costs $5, and comes with a souvenir wine glass, with which you sample 6 wines. The winery representative shared a brief description of the wine as he poured the glass, and was willing to discuss each glass, and didn't make you feel silly for asking even the most basic questions. The wine tasting room was cozy and comfortable, not intimidating. Please check out http://www.midatlanticdaytrips.blogspot.com/2013/07/a-taste-wineries-of-maryland-first-in.html for more about our visit to Serpent Ridge Vineyard.

Located in Westminster, MD on a beautiful property we came across the friendliest Wine tasting we have ever had. The winery itself has a lovely tasting room, complete with gifts, local cheeses, superb chocolate and a beautiful front porch where you can relax and enjoy your purchases after your tasting. Picnicking is also allowed and they have tables and also a nice grassy area. The wines they make are really lovely. Exquisite tasting and there special stopper in the bottles is outstanding. Kept our wine fresh but easy to take it and out of the bottle. And they give you free ones to take home. After relaxing on the porch we played a few rounds of a bean bag toss game that just added to the fun of the day.
