Ridgely Airport is home to Highland Aerosports. Come out and take an Tandem flight with one of their instructors to experience Hang Gliding first hand. It is one of the most amazing ways to spend some time in the air.

Sunny and Adam operate Highland Aerosports, one of the premier hanggliding schools on the east coast. You will be learning to fly the safest way, with an instructor that is an experienced teacher with thousands of flights under his belt. It you want to pursue hanggliding as a sport you will find excellent instruction at reasonable prices and a very supportive hanggliding community that is happy to share their experiences. If you decide it's not for you there will be no high pressure sales tacticsSo come on out and give it a try. Maybe you will be someone who joins our addiction.

I love this flight park! I got my aerotow rating here and the instructor was 1st class! I learned so much here and the instructors are the best as well as the tug pilots! I only wished I lived closer to these guys. But looking forward to flying with them for two weeks this month! Oh and I have to mention that I got engaged here!

I am a hang glider pilot and love to fly at Highland Aerosports. I have brought numerous friends and clients to Fly at Highland Aerosports and even let my own kid fly here. Everyone has truly enjoyed the experience and looks forward to coming back. They have a very professional, yet laid back approach to sharing this truly amazing form of flight.

Headed over to Highland Aerosports recently with family and friends to celebrate my 50th birthday with this unique experience! We had a mix of both excited and nervous "student pilots" and were made to feel at ease and assured by Sunny and Adam with their orientation prior to our flights. I can't say enough good things about how professional they were, how safety-conscious they were, and how absolutely FUN they were! :-) We had three generations of my family sign up to fly - my dad (74 years old), myself and my husband, and my son (23 years old) - and we ALL had the same wonderful experience. I would definitely recommend the mile-high flight as we were able to fly in and out of clouds at that altitude, which was entirely magical and surreal! Don't think that you're just going to sit there and they'll do all the work, though - it is an actual first "lesson" and, by the end, you'll be performing aerobatic maneuvers on your own, which is awesome! Of the 10 people in our group who participated, all of them said that they'd do it again in a heartbeat and especially with the Highland Aerosports team. We hope to see you again soon!

I got my aerotow signoff from Sunny and and done much of my flying at Highland. It's a great place to fly--laid back, friendly, but with lots of good advice and nice facilities. Jim is a first-rate tug pilot, and I have always felt safe on the rope behind him. If you want to learn to fly and you live in the region, don't hesitate.

Do you ever dream of flying? Moving silently at a human pace around clouds, above the landscape? Highland Aerosports is your place- they can get you there, and teach you how to get there yourself. The operation is well run, upbeat, and more fun than you can shake a stick at. Sunny and Adam, the o/o's are nationally recognized for their teaching of hang gliding, and get folks in the sky in a low-stress, high value sort of way. Almost as much fun as the flying itself is the riffraff crowd it draws- demented engineers, fairy-powder grandmothers, soaring manatees, all take over the airpark on weekends and make for a welcoming place to camp with your family. Half of the clientel seem to be professional pilots, artists, scientists, journalists- but you'd never know it. Snob factor of ZERO. Finish your lessons to your first solo, and someone is going to offer you a beer while your kids catch frogs and watch fireflies.

Awesome place and great people that run it! You can't go wrong. Sunny and Adam are extremely welcoming and accommodating. I have nothing but good experiences there and with all interactions. Flying at Highland Aerosports is an adventure of a lifetime.

A buddy of mine regularly hang glildes with Highland Aerosports - he has his own glider and all that jazz. After hearing his glorious stories about how great hang gliding was, my wife and I decided to give the tandem flights a try. I don't have a single bad thing to say about our experience. We did paperwork and received some flight instructions on the ground. They teach you the basics - how to turn, go downhill, uphill. They talk you through how the tow works to get you to the altitude of your flight. Heck, they even give you a card that says you're temporarily a "pilot". How cool is that?!My wife went first and had a great flight- there was a small snafu that the tow plan and a glider were on the runway where the tandems land (which is different than where singles land). Some fancy flying and a quick S curve and they landed at an alternate spot. That was the only moment of motion sickness that my wife happened to feel (and she's usually fairly prone to it). Even with that, she loved it.I went second. I do have to say- I pitied my guide/instructor/tandem dude. The harness has him lay down in it first and then my lard tush climbs in on top of him. I asked him if it hurt and he chuckled. Enough said. Otherwise, my flight was pretty awesome. I did get to experience the thrill of the tow line breaking between the glider and plane, but he had explained (ahead of time) that this is normal and designed into the system. The landing was pretty bumpy and involved a ditch, but no harm, no foul. We landed, re-tied up the towing line and took off again. The instructor took care of flying to get us airborne and released from the tow plane. After that, he literally said, "Ok, show me a left turn. (I did.) Show me a right turn (I did.) Show me how to go faster. (I did.) Show me a stall. (I did. Peed a little- poor guy.) Ok, fly us where you want to go." Wait, what? So we flew and checked out some farms, some trees, all that jazz. As we descended, he took over flying and landed us uneventfully.I was fairly positive that I was going immediately go out and buy a hang glider, move my family into an RV and hang glide for the rest of my life. My euphoric high eventually went away and none of those things happened, but I would love to go hang gliding again- even as a tandem. I'd definitely fly with Highland Aerosports if we do it again.

This is the way to get a good look at the peninsula. Sunny, Adam and Jim have take you up behind a small ultra light in a tandem hang glider that you'll get to pilot if you like. You'll release and fly free over the country side.

What an absolutely incredible experience! After researching an initial hang gliding experience, I found Highland Aerosports. From our first contact, I could see the professionalism of the company. I booked early in the season but my flight was cancelled due to unfavorable weather conditions. I appreciated their honest assessment of the weather and the fact that safety was number one. After a few more months of waiting, I rebooked for a date in June. The flight was absolutely worth the wait. Upon arrival, every single person we met was welcoming and knowledgeable. After a training regarding the equipment and flight, I found myself in the glider with the instructor, Adam. Just as fast as we were attached to the tow plane, we were in the air heading to our destination of 5,280 feet (although you can also select heights of 2,500 or 3,500 feet). It all happens in a blink, but for those moments when you are soaring in the air, it's like time stops. Words just can't describe the feeling. While the intructor is in change of piloting the glider during take off and landing, you will have the chance to fly the glider once you reach altitude. Adam was great about allowing me to try out turns, dives and stalls. He gave excellent explanations before and during the flight and frequently checked to see if I had any questions. I felt safe and secure and upon landing, all I could think about was wanting to do it again. My entire flight (from take off to touch down) was about 26 minutes long. My husband took pictures from the ground, but I also thought the camera mounted on the glider gave a lot of great perspective shots during the flight and would recommend paying the small extra fee for the pictures. If you are considering trying out hang gliding, I can highly recommend Highland Aerosports. Everyone there has a genuine passion for the sport and are absolute professionals. Happy flying!

Thanks Sunny, Adam, Bob and Kristin for a wonderful introduction to hang gliding. The weather was perfect for the occasion. I can now check this adventure off my bucket list. Adam, greeted me warmly and treated me as if he was waiting for my arrival. He started the paperwork, answered questions and assured me that my request for photographs would be granted. After all, I must have proof of my adventure for my friends who are sixty years plus. Sunny and Kristin was on the field as I arrived; they made me feel comfortable. We chatted until it was my turn to soar. Bob, the instructor, was eager to please; he explained safety details in regards to the glider. Andrew, checked my harness and gave brief instructions. Finally, Up, up and away - we are being lifted on the updrafts and soaring like an eagle. Breathtaking, what a wonderful birds-eye-view. Delaware, is just a stones throw. Bob, allowed me to take control of the glider. Bob, asked if I liked roller coasters, yes was my reply. OMG!!! We are going warp speed, moooooooore. I am liking this adventure . My time is quickly ticking away. I am laughing with glee, it is almost time for touch down. Ahhhhhhhhhh, fifteen minutes well spent.
