This is what I call a Hidden Hop; that local establishment that not only is a great place to kick back and enjoy a good time with your friends, but also has a great beer selection. Smith's Billiards Lounge is no exception! Smith's is located on 207 Worthington Street, Springfield, MA 01103. Right above another great establishment, Theodore's. I discovered this place a few years ago when I was invited to play pool with some friends. I am no pool shark, but I do enjoy a good game of 9-ball. When we first arrived, we grabbed a bite at Theodore's Restaurant on street level. Theodore's has great live entertainment, a great BBQ menu, and a pretty decent beer selection. But if you are going to Smith's after, don't spend too much on these brews, because the treasure is just two flights (pun intended) upstairs.Keeping our meal receipts, we headed to Smith's. Presenting your receipt gives you one hour of free pool. If you want to just start playing, and enjoying some great craft beer, Theodore's menu is available in Smith's as an extra bonus. When entering Smith's, to the right is a fully stocked craft beer bar, with bottles and rotating drafts. I am pleased to share you can now order sampler flights! With an admirable selection of Bourbon and Scotch whiskeys, you won't be parched. The lounge is comfortable, bourbon barrel tables, bar stools, gleaming polished wooden floors and darts are on one side. On the other side there are the pool tables. To be honest, it doesn't have the Mad Men style class. However, the atmosphere is prime for playing the game and enjoying great brews with good friends. The beer selection on draft is exceptionally exciting. Yes it does rotate, but items can range from Stone and Ommegang, to Southern Tier and Allagash. Pricing on these glasses can range from $4-$10+ so come prepared. The bartenders also know how to serve a craft beer accurately, they have proper glassware and know what they are talking about. If what you're looking for is not on tap, it's probably in the bottle. So, if you are looking for something new to try, and want that draft experience. Or if you know what you like and just want to treat yourself to a good night out, or maybe help support a local establishment and the craft brew world, head on over to Smith's and indulge.
