A beautiful stretch of white fine sand. The beach is non-commercial with only a small stand for sandwiches and snacks, and a changing area with showers. The ocean water is cold year round, but, can be very refreshing on a hot summers day. There are nature trails to walk and enjoy the surroundings. On weekends in summer the parking lot fills up fast and sometimes cars are turned away at the gate.

most civilized, lovely, sandy beach in the area. worth buying a season's sticker if you're local. I grew up beaching it, and this is my favorite...and to have toilets, and a place to buy a hummus sandwich, and the view to the castle over the dunes, bird murmurations galore, be still my snow packed heart!

Over a mile of nice white sand with shallow water at low tide. The huge parking lot fills up fast on hot summer days so come early...before 10:00 AM on weekends. Only one road in/out so traffic may be backed up. Clean bathrooms and showers/dressing areas, good food available at reasonable prices. No shade! At high tide the water comes pretty close to the dunes near the boardwalks from the parking lot and it gets very crowded in this location...walk a way to the right or left to avoid the crowd. Can be expensive ... Check the website for entrance fees before venturing here as a fair number of people see the price, opt out and 'try' to turn around with heavy traffic surrounding them...makes other drivers grumpy.

The beach is long with white sand bordered by sea grasses and wooden boardwalks that take you over the grasses. On the end of the beach that borders the Crane Estate there are some rocks but otherwise the beach is easy walking without rocks or pebbles. One of our favorite times to visit is the hour or two prior to sunset. The lightening is golden and there are fewer people on the beach.

We have been members of the Trustees for years because of Crane Beach. It stretches for miles and is always clean and beautiful. The view of the ocean and gentle crashing of the waves is breathtaking. I visit several times per month all year round. Highly recommended!

I visited on a nice day in late October. It was $5 per car. Beach wasn't empty, but wasn't crowded, people walking dogs and strolling. Beach is super pretty, amazing fine sand.

It's not free - parking costs $10 and then $3 for each dog unless you are an Ipswich resident or a trustee. There are two areas - a leash and a no leash area. The no leash area is wonderful for dogs - the day we were there all kinds of breeds were running around. Most owners were good about picking up and knowing when their dogs should be on a leash. Beautiful area not sure why it costs so much. The Cape Cod beaches are free in the off season.

I am not local so have only been here in October in both 2013 and 2014. It has become one of my favorite places. At that time of year there are still a good number of people walking dogs, playing in the surf, and sitting on the beach itself. I loved all the sandbars and enjoyed watching the beach disappear as the tide came in. The view of Crane Beach from the tip of Plum Island ( Parker Wildlife Refuge) is also worthwhile. One of the most beautiful beaches in USA, in my opinion.

I love this beach, green heads or no. It's pristine, it massive, it's part of the Trustees of Reservation, it respects the natural habitat of the indigenous flora and fauna and it lies at the feet of the magnificent Crane Estate. Well worth any wait you have or miles you have travelled. BUT, going during the week affords tons of space to spread out and enjoy the ebb and flow of the sea.

There is nothing that can compare with the Crane Estate anywhere in the area. It is a gorgeous mansion with extensive grounds overlooking the ocean in the distance. Best venue for a wedding!

I went in late August, and arrived close to the closing of the beach. Which is around 7:15 PM at this time of year. It closes as the sun sets, so if you plan on heading out, make sure you account for that.I went for the Labor Day Weekend, with the snack bar still open til 6:00 PM and plenty of people still at the beach. The facilities were larger than a lot of public beaches, and it seemed like a really good spot to bring a family or a group of friends.Access to the beach is through three walkways over the dunes, there are also some trails that extend out for a few miles that make it a nature lover's dream. Add to the fact that it is a part of the Trustee's of Reservation system, and you have a great place for educational content. There were signs everywhere that explained a lot, or a little, about the beach.Walking on the beach, it seemed like a different beach compared to others in Massachusetts. Were people checking each other out, judging, or sizing each other up?Beach water is coooolllldddd, but great for an ice bath. The sandbar is long, and you can find a spot that is unpopulated, but it is a bit of a walk to lose all the civilization.Overall, it is worth the price! Check out the Not Your Average Joes along the way for some decent fare or some gluten free food which includes bread and some sweet olive oil and parmesan cheese. Yum!Also, they did have the ability for wheelchair access to the beach and water!
