At first glance you wouldn't believe the Lonoke County Arkansas Historical Museum was even open, but what's inside will surprise you. Located in what was once a house and then a service station, the museum is divided up into sections. These sections are based on the different stores and professional offices that once existed in the county. There are sections for a bank, jail, church, school, barber, hotel, train depot, bakery, dress shop, blacksmith, mercantile, and coming soon a doctor's office. Though not large you get the idea of what each of these places may have looked about 1900. Each section is stocked with the relics of that period. There is a diorama of what the city of Lonoke once looked like and to a large degree still does. It doesn't take long to go through it, but it is worth the time. There is no fee and the people who work there are more than happy to give you a tour.
