Few of us know what it took to go through the 20s & 30s in agricultural America. This little museum tells a story many don't know; not only of the struggles but thepush for successful futures.I loved the story this little spot tells.I love Johnny Cash too; so, seeing his boy-hood home and hearing more of hisstory was a delight. There's currently limited amenities in this little spot on the map.I think the gas station/grocery store is still going. For a meal: look to Wilson Cafe, or Tyboogies. They're both minutes away.

We went on a guided tour from Little Rock so I can't comment on hours, cost, directions or logistics. But in just downtright pleasre, quality of the restoration, fascination, education about Cash and the whole depression years and what the country provided for its citizens, plus the whole magic of Johnny's emergence from such humble beginnings is just fantastic. An extra bonus is the museum which is in the original Dyess headquarters. It is truly excellent. Hurry to Dyess (and by the way, do not say Dyess in slow southern two-syllables! - It is not "Die-esss." It is closer to those little cubes they throw in Las Vegas... "Dice" !!

Although small, this museum is a true gem. While it may draw fans of Johnny Cash and Gene Williams with rooms of information and personal possessions, the fascinating story of the town and its inhabitants (as described in several rooms of displays) was most memorable to me. The town was created during the depression to provide homes and land to farmers, as well as to house the nutritionists, ag specialists, physicians, teachers, etc. needed to make the project a success. The museum itself is housed in the former administration building. Follow up your museum visit with a trip to see the house that J.R. "Johnny" Cash grew up in, newly restored and filled with original and contemporary furnishings and photos.
