I walked into Skagway from the harbour. The railway ticket office is one of the first buildings you come to and it has a history associated with those early Gold Rush days. Next door was the Klondike Ranger Service. They run Walking Tours through the town. It was very well done. The young lady began by explaining the geography of the area and then she gave us a potted history of the early settlers. We then walked through the town and she explained the significance of sites which related to those times. The tour took an hour. I would suggest that you take the tour before you go back to the Museum in the Klondike Ranger Service building. This museum has great displays and a large number of excellent photographs. These exhibits relate to that "Gold Rush Era" and show just how difficult life was for those who chose this as a career.

The city museum director put in a new display about 12 years ago and now hides in her office glued to her computer all day. The displays are nicely done but don't go back thinking there will be any updates. Located on 8th in the big stone building, no directional signs (who wants more business? just more work!)

We found the museum while we walked around the streets of Skagway. The museum is small and full of interesting tidbits about the area. If you have time while walking through the town, it is worth stopping in but we do not recommend that you plan the day around this attraction.

We enjoyed this as part of our stroll around town ,others have described it well. This was in contrast to our afternoon white water rafting trip !

This museum only charges $2 and will keep your umbrella at the front for you. They also allow pictures. Most of the items on display are from local residents, past and present, and items from the gold rush era. One item on display that is worth seeing is a blanket made from the necks of ducks. The museum is located away from the cruise ship madness on a side street, well worth the walk.

Great little museum to help you get away from all the shops down town. Very informative about Skagway and the area. The cost is minimal for one of the best attractions in Skagway. Stocked with personal items from the area and a spectacular blanket made from the colorful neck feathers of ducks. The fee is $5.

We happened upon this museum by chance and decided to go in because it looked quaint, and it was a fun place to visit. It only cost a few dollars to enter and they had many personal items from past inhabitants to see. They even had some dresses people used to wear. I felt like I was seeing more things from real person who used to live there. There was also an interesting video about how the U.S. set up a military base in Skagway during WWII. It doesn't take long to see the entire museum. It's worth a trip if you have time.

Alaska has so much fascinating history, that a quick divert to the Museum is certainly worth an hour. I'm a history buff, but even my wife enjoyed it.

I enjoyed the history and the tour given by the ranger (it was free) Very clean restrooms too. How many more words do I have to put in this review to have it published

The museum looks like a little house with not much to offer, and then you go inside... What a great place! The layout was well thought out and easy to navigate. A bounty of history throughout and well displayed. We enjoyed the entire facility, including the immaculate restrooms. The staff were polite, helpful and as involved as you requested. Don't miss out on this amazing little gem when you visit Skagway, AK!

Very small museum, but it honestly transpires what the 1898 gold rush was all about.. I recommend that you take half and hour or more to see this small museum.. Its very easy to get there from the pier.. and you will fill yourself with the history of the city.

We stopped here to watch the movie which was free, it was a 30-minute clip of life during th egold rush which was very interesting. They had a book shop and very very clean toilets.
