A memorable part of our Major Marine Kenai Fjords tour! It was a beautiful day for this boat tour, did experience some small calvings as well!

Yes there is global warming. It's disappearing too quickly and won't be there for our grandchildren.

We saw this glacier on a Kenai Fjords boat tour. The captain gets close enough for you to hear it roaring, and if you are lucky enough, to see it calving. We heard the first but did not see the latter. The glacier is very striated and mixed with the rocks and dirt it is pushing along. There are icebergs in the water and they have a blue tinge as does the cleaner parts of the glacier.

You absolutely need a picture of this glacier in your Alaska album.. very very majestic. Love the bluish tinge in the glaciers

This is a beautiful sight indeed. I got awesome photos. It is a magnificent glacier coming down to the water and when the ice chunks drop off it makes incredible noises. I thoroughly enjoyed this

Went to Holgate Glacier on the Stellar Explorer with Saltwater Cruises, as this is a small boat we got really close to the Glacier. It was stunning to see such a majestic sight, the size & blue colour cast of the Glacier are amazing. It was also cool to see huge chunks of ice that had broken off from the Glacier floating in the water. Our boat stopped for a good 20 minutes at the Glacier it was fabulous to just be in silence and gape at this awesome sight, simply breathtakingly beautiful..

Holgate Glacier is a phenomenal experience, even for the most experienced traveler..It is simply magnificient in its beauty and awesome to experience how small we people really are. It is a plus if you see if calve..but even if you don't, the blue color and the magnificence of being in the presence of a glacier of this magnitude will be impressive enough. I love the icebergs floating by our boat (Coastal Explorer) and the crew were kind enough to scoop up a small iceberg for us to touch and photograph up close and personal. I highly recommend this experience! Like many experiences in Alaska, it is different each time we go, but always magnificent!

This glacier is truly breathtaking. On the Kenai Fjords Tour they get very close to this glacier so you will get plenty of great pictures in front of it. The only reason this glacier doesn't get five stars from me is that we didn't see any major calving. I was lucky enough to see the Marguerite glacier in Glacier Bay, so that is my standard for 5 stars.

We spent about 25 minutes watching the Holgate Glacier while on a Major Marine boat tour. We could hear it groan and crack, and a few times, small pieces fell off. The glacier is huge! There were small icebergs floating around the glaciers. As you get closer to the glacier, the temperature dropped and it was pretty cold on the boat deck. We saw a few people in kayaks on the shore to the side of the glacier - that looked like a great way to see the glacier.

Unbelievable beauty and amazing ice bergs. We passed through thick foggy marine layer and the sky's opened up all sunny to display the glacier. Highlight of our trip.

From the time our 7.5 hr cruise with Major Marine Tours arrived at Holgate Glacier, one of the many stops on the cruise, all of the guests were entranced by the size and beauty of this magnificent glacier. One huge section of the glacier fell into the water right in front of eyes with an explosive sound right before the ice fell into the sea (called glacier calving). On one side of the glacier, a city of harbor seals rested on the floating ice in the water, without a care in the world. We also saw many Northern Sea Otters hanging around. The glacier "breath" was cold, even on a sunny day, so bring hats and gloves while you watch the glacier in action. Holgate Glacier is one of most stunning sites on earth, and I was thankful for the privilege to watch it in action for 15 minutes.

Viewed this glacier from the water. Huge, lots of deep blue ice. Must see! The captain of our boat took his time to cover the front face of the glacier. He wanted to us to see a large block of ice fall in the water, but we finally saw a lot of small pieces make it. Wow!

This was the highlight of the tour. It was breathtaking to watch the glacier calving into the ocean and to hear the sounds that created.

We saw the glacier on a cloudy day and it was the most beautiful aqua color you can imagine. Our tour boat stopped in front of the glacier for lunch and it was making the most amazing noises. Don't miss this.

We were on a Kenai Fjords tour in the first week of July. Good weather - which means cloudy, misty and cool. Beautiful, long stop at Holgate Glacier, to quietly experience the natural beauty of a mass of ice: this included the groaning of the glacier and the thunderous crash of ice into the ocean. It was an incredible experience.
