This is a really cool stop while traveling. Small local "rustic" museum with locally made goods and crafts. Furs are cheaper here compared to elsewhere so you should buy it local here. They're famous for a yearly lottery- ice classic- guessing the day/time ice melts.

It`s good to stop there for 20-40`see the railway station from the pastcheck logbooks for Nenana Ice Classic - very helpful if you want to enrolluse funny but useful railway restroomsall for free - so see "the museum" - better collection this wayand esp. now when Joana died last fall...so if open buy something... even just a magnets but they had some Tshirts or hats or even postcards in a good price

When we entered the Alaska State Railroad Museum after having read the historic markers outside commemorating the visit of President Harding who drove a golden spike symbolizing the completion of the Alaska Railroad, we expected a good history experience inside the building. We walked into a huge room with a lady dressed in "period" gear behind the counters of what turned out to be the gift shop. Although the lady seemed nice enough, she offered no welcome, no information about the museum or local history. We soon learned that she was there to guard the gift shop.Through a short hallway was a museum that turned out to be an unorganized collection of vintage objects that when put all together, provided no information to the visitor beyond that fact that people back in whatever time periods the museum was representing owned things.Like the other "museum" in town, prominent signage involved selling lottery tickets, but I had to go to the internet to learn that it was railroad workers that actually started the Nenana Ice Classic lottery. The stationmasters office was interesting, but once again, the artifacts in the office were not shown in any useful context and signage was lacking. This museum could use more helpful staff, better organization or preferably both. If you're into railroad history and willing to do some upfront research, this is probably a worthwhile stop. If you are just stopping in to learn something from a museum tour, you will probably be disappointed.
