We found this gem while visiting Fairbanks in February, we wanted to ski and see snow. As civilian you need to stop by the visitor office to get a pass to the ski resort, allow 30-45 minutes for this (very worth it). You will need valid ID: driver's license or passport, you can ask for a day pass or 7 day pass to bypass the Ft Wainwright. Once you have a pass drive to Birch Hill Ski & Snowboard Area. They have ski rentals and ski passes that are very affordable then other ski area. We also did snow tubing that was very fun. We very enjoy our day snow tubing and skiing, the staff were all very helpful and friendly. Overall we spent $60 per person including ski rental, ski pass, and tubing.

I haven't actually made it to this destination yet, but wanted to say that the experience so far is fantastic. Melody worked to find lessons next week (we are flying into Fairbanks from Atlanta, GA). Even though there were no ski instructors avail, there was a snowboard instructor for my 2 teenagers. Melody set it up, made sure I had correct prices, gave me specific directions to the site, told me what I'd need to get on base and said she'd either talk me thru trying to ski (I have no desire to snowboard), or there would be the option of the tube hill (sounds a little safer!). I will check back after we get there, but so far, I am really impressed with the customer service.

Our ski team had the pleasure of attending the rural state ski and biathlon championships at Birch Hill. The staff was amazing, and the trails were groomed to perfection.
