battleship uss alabama

I have now seen this attraction twice in the last 2 years and each time I gaze in amazment. When you walk through this monument, you walk the same decks, touch the same guns, and view the same halls as so many before. You almost become part of this proud ships history. It is obvious that the ship is well cared for and appeared to have been freshly painted in the last year or so. Love the history, love the legacy of this vessel and I will continue to enjoy all it offers.

The site has a great selection of military hardware, from the main attraction the Alabama, to a diesel submarine, aircraft from WWII to the present, and armored vehicles. The free app is useful (but not packed with tons of info) and necessary--there is limited info otherwise and no guided tours.

If you ever have a chance to board and tour a battleship you should do it. Its a virtual history lesson that is amazing. The USS Alabama is well preserved and most of the workers are former military full of stories and information. Its a great way to spend the afternoon and renew pride in your country!

Wow, what a place to visit. We had two US Naval veterans in our party and they also enjoyed seeing everything. Have to say the ship tour was the best part, but the air museum and the submarine was pretty cool too. A must see, if you're anywhere near Mobile.

Exploring the battleship, the memorials (including our four legged soldiers), aircrafts and an abandoned soviet tank was incredibly a sorrowful and a proud feeling. Bittersweet...RING THE BELL

They say to allow 2 hrs... we spent 5 hrs because we stopped to read everything and only got through the Alabama; going back tomorrow to see the sub and planes. It was hard to wrap our heads around the fact that 2700 men lived on that battleship protecting us. My Dad's stories of navy life and life aboard ship are more vivid now. You wind through the workings of the ship amazed at what the sailors had to do. This is a gotta-do stop. Be sure to download the tour app.

Went to an event here. Really cool place. Good place for kids and men who act like kids. I enjoyed it even though it wasn't my thing. The staff is great!

With WWII music in the background--one feels surrounded by spirits of the men who served on this warship. You can walk through 90% of all decks above and below. A MUST see in honor of the men who served aboard the USA Alabama.

You pay your fee and then get to tour the battleship and the USS Drum, a WWII sub. You don't realize how big ships are until you been on a battlewagon, they're huge. you can tour most of the ship, see where sailors cooked and ate, did shoe repair, went to the doctor and dentist, lived their lives in this floating city.

Stopped after science museum but was fun to walk around. Wish we would have made it for the tour, but going back to do tour sometime this year!

This was an amazing trip for my troop, back in 2003. We were allowed to stay overnight in the crew quarters. We got to explore the ship extensively and at night we got to play hide and seek that night spread out over the ship. It was great.

One cold day, I took my family from the beach and we toured the USS Alabama with my 18 month old and 6 year old boy and wife. We spent about 2 hours on the battleship, an hour on the submarine, and about a half hour in the air museum. The latter had a really cool flight simulator (think movie/video game/in moving mobile home) that I did with my 6 year old. The battleship was set up very well with access to just about everything including letting you get into the big guns and to walk up to the tip top of the ship. The rooms below are set up to show you how they must have looked when the ship was operational including shells and whatnot. It was great but my kids were itching to leave after an hour. We only got through 1 and 1/2 of the "tours" when I think there were 3 different color guided tours you can take to see different part of the ship.The submarine was everybody's favorite, probably b/c it was the shortest - just a straight shot from stern to bow - but also b/c it was really well kept. Everything looked like it was ready to go and was super shiny. Lots of buttons and switches to flip and cranks to turn. The price was kind of a lot, about $40 for the four of us and they didn't give a break to my 18 month old? Really?

We decided to go to Mobile on a whim. We reviewed the best attractions and needed to see the USS Alabama and the submarine Drum. What a throwback in time as well as getting the first hand feel about living on the ship and how life was among the ranks. Never having been in the armed forces I was not sure how this would appeal to us. It was really great and we spent about 4 hours taking our time and climbing to the highest public area. What a great experience this was.

The USS Alabama Memorial Park is a must see site for anyone interested in naval history. The park includes the battleship USS Alalabame giving visitors the opportunity to clamber over nearly all of the ship, including the barrette, the heart of the 16" guns. It is incredible how the ship and it's 2500 crew performed their tasks. Then, next to the ship are a display of aircraft in a building, including many of the F series fighter jets, and the submarine USS Drum. The visitor, if nimble and flexible enough, can tour this WW2 submarine. It is an amazing opportunity to see how the craft was manned and operated.

Easy to follow routes throughout the battleship. The dry dock submarine is also very interesting. A vintage sub from the civil was is on display
