Located on the grounds of an elementary school this completely accessible ruin is a treat. Site of one of the previous capitals of Alabama later turned into a girls school and then burned down. I can not believe more music videos or movies are not shot here. Words can not adequately describe this place. It is a marvel.

Small park with ruins of the previous Alabama capitol. Stones are laid out showing where the walls were and there is one wall standing. Several columns - very cool! Plagues on the ground show the plan of the original building. A little disappointed to find out it was all "bulldozed" at one time and later reassembled in its current state.

Capitol Park is awfully tiny, but it's surrounded by cozy homes and rather insulated from the highway. A great place to go for a picnic after strolling through downtown Tuscaloosa. Cool place for photos, too. If you're a history buff, by all means visit--this unassuming site once housed the capitol building of Alabama, hence the name!
