Blue Moon is an interesting venue - it has a B&B above the music/bar area. At night, there is local music (I think they bring outside groups in as well). I has a rustic "barn" sort of feel to it. Very artsy. Something of a local institution.

The bartenders act like they are doing you a favor to serve you . the place is small hot and flithy. If there is a big name playing you can forget even being able to see them due how small this place is . Let's face it Folks, its a back porch of a house in a crappy nieghborhood. way overrated !! ive been many times to see friends play. i also her the artist often get shorted by management. Lafayette has so many cool venues .This is not one of them.Dont waste your time. If you go wear old shoes !!!

I spent a night in Lafayette in a road trip, read somewhere about this music place, and just walked in on a Cajun jam session of some of the locals. I loved it! I loved that it had a very genuine feel, that it is just a sort-off shack place and not a real concert venue, that people were happy and enjoyed it ... very good!

We absolutely love this place...you can go on line and get their schedule...we prefer the nights when they have Cajun and Blues! Very rustic and a nice crowd of mixed ages and you can always strike up a conversation with another visitor or the locals! We always go to the Blue Moon when in Lafayette!

While I did not stay at the Blue Moon Saloon's guesthouse, I had heard too many great things about the bar to pass it up. I visited on a Saturday night. There was a $10 cover, but three great local bands played starting around 9:30pm. I liked the bands so much that I even bought one of their CDs (I haven't bought a CD in years). The front bar area is not very big, but everyone surrounding the stage was either swing dancing, or hanging around the dance floor tapping their feet and enjoying some beers. I would add this as a must-see for anyone looking to enjoy the night life of Lafayette.

The Bue Moon Saloon and Guesthouse is located in downtown Lafayette,Louisiana. Its a very eclectic place. Its a guesthouse surrounde by a front bar, dance floor , back bar and a courtyard. Bring your dancing shoes because the Blue Moon has some of the best music in the area. Wednesday is Cajun jam night,so if you want to play bring your instuments. Thursday-Sunday the Blue Moon plays host to local and national bands. You can have a really great time , dancing the night away

I stayed at the Blue Moon Guesthouse about 3-1/2 years ago while on a volunteer vacation (disregard the date of visit below - March 2009 wasn't an option). Everyone there was top-notch: the staff, the guests and the bands. Even though I live in NY, I tell any touring bands or anyone I know who may be visiting Louisiana that if they are anywhere near Lafayette or travelling on I-10 that they have to stop at the Blue Moon. The website is helpful in terms of finding food, transportation, etc. I don't know if it's still there, but there was also a nice little ice cream shop next to the Blue Moon parking area.My brief stay was comfortable and I still tell people in NY about the music & parties down there. It was a great way to close out my vacation.

I was staying at the Blue Moon Guesthouse; therefore, spent many evenings at the Blue Moon Saloon which is litterally the back porch of the guesthouse. It's nothing fancy, quite rustic, and a great place to hear great music. The staff is awsome, the patrons are friendly (a mix of locals and guests), and the drinks are yummy. And of course, there's a dance floor to practice your two step. They have live music from Wednesday's to Saturday's, sometimes on Sunday. Wednesday night is Cajun jam night, which is basically anybody who wants to play an instrument can show up. There is no fee to get in this night. The other nights can be anything from cajun to blues to country to regular bar music, always great bands. If you are in the Lafayette area, definitely worth a night or 2 of your time.

We stopped by Blue Moon for a late night party and some good Cajun music. We were not disappointed! With all the fiddles playing, not a person was standing still. Excellent time!

We watched several bands play here while we were on vacation. If I had gone here my first day I probably wouldn't have gone anywhere else. Well I guess I would have since they were only open on the weekends, so I guess I would have gone there for the weekend music and gone dancing other places for the rest of my time. This venu was great for dancing, meeting nice people and just an all around great vibe. I felt comfortable and in good company.

We came to the Blue Moon Saloon to see Drew Landry. We were new to the venue as well as the artist, but wanted to catch some local music while we were in Louisiana. Drew Landry is an amazing artist and the Blue Moon is a funky cool place. It's like the back porch of an older house which I think might be a hotel based on the website. There are Christmas lights, license plates, street signs and more decorating the walls and it was actually really cold, so there was a patio heater. Don't let the cold keep you away, the heater put off plenty of heat. The cover was $10 and it was worth more. You can't use a card to pay for cover, but you can use it at the bar. Next time we're in the area, we will definitely be back. I would just also like to add that the woman who opened up for Drew was also incredibly talented. We only caught the last couple of songs she played, and I didn't catch her name, but just in case she stumbles across this...

As a local, Blue Moon Saloon is a favorite place of mine. Its outside and open with GREAT music! It makes you feel as if you are sitting on the back porch at a friends house.

My husband and I were in Lafayette on business yesterday and discovered the Blue Moon patio after having dinner downtown. The reggae band, True Posse, performed with other local artists joining in as the night progressed. We danced until they closed. This is a rustic place where the dress is super casual. You'll be at home in shorts, jeans, tee shirt, sandals and tennis shoes. Heck! You can even go barefoot if that floats your boat. All ages will enjoy this place - from college kids to us over-50's. Just be ready to let your hair down and laissez les bon temps roulet!

We were in Lafayette to visit family on our way to NO. It was a Sunday night, so I didn't expect much in the way of "entertainment". Much to my surprise we went to the Blue Moon. One of the first things I noticed was that if you didn't know this place was here, you'd never find it. It's nested in a semi-residential area, with none of the neon signs of most places. Parking could be a problem, but we were fortunate enough to find a place across the street. When walking up to the Blue Moon, I thought we were going to a private house. When entering the gate, there was a "doorman" collecting a cover charge of $10 per person. Since there was live music, and usually the band gets a portion of the cover, I didn't have a problem with the charge. It still looked like a private house until we walked around the side and found a nice porch, sitting area and a live band.Walking through the porch led to a nice little courtyard area where there was a bar set up which you ordered your favorite beverages at. Since we were with family, the courtyard area provided a place to enjoy the great Cajun music without having to yell to be heard. It also provided a great view of the dance floor, which considering it was a Sunday, was fairly crowded. The crowd seemed to be a lot of locals who knew each other and helped out with emptying trash, serving food, cleaning up, etc. The Blue Moon is a hostel and after taking a tour around, seemed to be somewhat of a throwback to the communes of the 60's (ok, I'm old). Everything was clean, there wasn't any trash laying around, and everyone was enjoying the Cajun music that was being played. We stayed until closing time (about 11 as I recall) and the crowd just kind of broke up, no issues, no fights (I've been at many bars at closing and sometimes it's not a pretty sight). The Blue Moon carries on the Cajun traditions that with the new generations seems to be going away. It's traditional music, along with the hostel, food, reasonably priced beverages and great music was the perfect evening of fun and entertainment. It felt like I was a guest at someones house, they knew a guy who played drums, another that played fiddle, another that played guitar and they all just kind of came over, had a few beers and played some great music.
