An amazing place, mix with the locals, any age between 21 and 80, and dance at the sound of the best live Zydeco. Today we had Geno Delafose. Every Sunday 4 to 8 pm, 100% Cajun.

Had to experience a real Cajun dancehall while visiting the Lafayette area. A Sunday evening at Angelle's is a must for that experience. Despite bad weather the place filled up with regulars. Gino LaPonte a local legend was playing. The locals were friendly and welcoming. A trailer out front provided local cuisine, pulled pork and BBQ chicken sandwiches. Hard to find, but worth the search! Laissez Bon Temps Roule! Get your Cajun on!

I went there on a Sunday afternoon to hear live Zydeco for the first time. I got the whole experience at Whiskey River. The band started at 4:00pm and the dance floor was immediately full. The band took no breaks until they ended at 8:00pm. It was an experience not to miss. The hospitality of these south Louisianan's was what you hope for when traveling in the south. I love these folks. I was on vacation fishing in south Louisisana and then went hot air ballooning in Mississippi, Arkansas and Oklahoma but the Sunday afternoon at Whiskey River was the highlight of my vacation. I live in Oregon so I can't visit often but anytime I am in the south in the future, I will make it a point to pay them a visit.

we had a blast on a Sunday evening. The band was excellent and the bar's interior was rough but it fits the setting perfectly. We had a great time dancing and getting to know some of the locals.

Little bar on the swamp that has local bands and fills up in Sunday afternoons with music and dancing! A must see if in the area!

OMG! We lived in Lafayette for a year. We were fishing on the levee one Sunday afternoon Great Fishing BTW), and decided to stop in to see what zydeco dancing was all about. Boy, are we glad we did!! The whole place was shaking from all the dancing. These people were having a BLAST and the music was GREAT! We loved it!!! They let you dance on the bar on the last song. We went online and found dancing lessons at Grant Street Dance Hall. Geno Delafose and the French Rockin Boogie were the bomb! Zydeco lovers for life!!!

Along the Henderson Levee Road stands a locally well-known dance bar/club, Whiskey River Landing. Watch for the sign on the left or you'll miss it. The parking lot is dirt, and most cars park along the levee itself. We were told to go early if we wanted to find a parking place within a mile of the club, and to be sure we drove a four-wheel drive vehicle. The night we went, sure enough, we saw a two-wheel drive car being pulled out of the muck on the side of the levee. The club is right on the bayou; looking out the window of the club (through an orange life preserver) offered a beautiful view of cypress growing out of the water. They sell no food in the club, only drink. If you might get hungry, bring your snacks with you. People had their burgers in tinfoil and their bags of chips when they arrived.Once we entered the club, we each paid a $10 cover and received green armbands (covered with black alligators, of course), and bellied up to the bar. The band, Geno Delafosse and French Rockin' Boogie, arrived a fashionable hour late, so the crowd grew steadily in size and intoxication level before the band ever started playing. Some dancers warmed up to the recorded music played during the wait time. If you've never heard zydeco music and never watched zydeco dancing, you can't imagine what you've missed. Hundreds of people dancing, young and old, fat and thin, tall and short, black and white, all dancing with each other and having fun; no wallflowers here. If you don't know how, someone will gladly show you what to do. And when quitting time came around, the band kept right on playing.Did I mention the friendly people? I guess we were obviously not regulars because many people asked where we were from and told us that we were "in for a treat!" Geno's band plays the Whiskey River on alternate Sunday afternoons (check his website for tour dates), and I'd bet the bands on his off-days are probably fun, too. You can probably find fun "on da levee" any time you can get to the Whiskey River Landing on a Sunday afternoon.

Four of us went here on a Sunday afternoon. There is a $10 cover; this place is cash only but they do have an ATM. There's a big dance floor with plenty of room to kick up your heels and a few chairs if you're lucky to find one. This place is all about Zydeco music and Zydeco dancing. This is a really fun place and the people are super friendly.Whiskey River can be a bit tricky to find - if you head towards Pat's Seafood on the Henderson Levee, take a right at Pat's to the levee road. Whiskey River is the third crossover down (you drive up and over the levee). Their website is pretty good about listing the entertainment. I think they have Zydeco most Sundays.

This venue is great to visit and taste the Cajun music and dances with live band music on a sunday afternoon. A lot of local families and friends were enjoing themselves and let us join in although we were strangers to them.

Went to Whiskey River on a Sunday to see the Zydaco band. quite the joint. It sits on the other side of the levee outside Henderson. We knew we were there when we saw all the cars. The place was packed. It was a mainly local crowd who seemed to know each other and were having a blast. There is a large area where the band is for dancing...and dance they do. You will see older people, younger people, bikers and cowboy hats. My wife and I found seats a long the front wall in the back room. You can still see the band but are away from the dancing craziness. The whole place bounces on the floor boards. (reminded me of the B52's song Love Shack). Bartenders are running like crazy but always on it. Never saw the band take a break in the 2 hours we were there. Really worth the trip to see what locals do on a Sunday afternoon. A true taste of a Zydaco party. What's not to like??

As a party of Brits this was far removed from anything we have experienced before. A fantastic Zydeco band, way off the beaten track, ( we nearly ran over an alligator on the way) and a packed bar full of people having the best time. The dancers were all ages and there was a constant change of partners - one old chap danced with most of the women in the room! The atmosphere however was not at all pervy just good old fashioned fun.

We went here to dance one Sunday night/evening. Parking lot was almost full when we showed up but there was plenty of room in side. Two areas...upper area for drinking and sitting and lower area for bar, drinking and dancing. Live band. They were very good but we were wanting Zydeco so we left after about and hour and a half. When you are dancing right in fron of this particular band, it was too loud to even scream in each other's ear. LOTS of smoking going on. We're not used to that as we're from California. Fun time though.
