We splurged for the first class dining tickets. The service was impeccable, food was good and plentiful. Saw many bald eagles in "The Trough" which was neat. The bathrooms were ok but not the greatest. Worst thing was the PA system, couldn't hear much of what was presumably good information about the trip. The conductor was knowledgeable, but the lady announcer was rude and had a very soft monotone voice, not good qualities for an announcer.

We booked here late in the foliage season but were not disappointed. This is a tiny train station, right off of the highway, with a Chessie system scenic train that runs for either a half or a whole day. We chose the half day trip and that was long enough for me. There were comfy padded seats for each passenger (unlike the Cass railroad which doesn't guarantee a seat, separate review), and there was hot food service throughout the trip. Hubby had some chef made chicken noodle soup that was so thick and savory, I ended up buying the remaining amount to go. The narrator, as others have said, pointed out many historical buildings and American history facts throughout the trip and also the bald eagle sightings along the river, which on this day were at least a handful of. Did you know that the baby eagles don't develop their white heads and tails until they're 4 to 5 years old? Until then they're brown. We saw both along the way this day, and thankfully the foliage was just enough off of the trees to allow a great view into the sparkling shallow river where the eagles live. There were also families of ducks and geese enjoying the river. The sun was out too, by about 10 a.m. and not too windy, as I'm told the eagles don't like. This was a slow moving, leisurely, relaxed ride which may be too long for little ones. There were several families around us and the kids got very fidgety halfway through. For those who just wants to unwind a little or the train enthusiast like me, (my granddad was a brakeman on the Washington D.C. Chessie line) this was a perfect little journey.

Not many have the opportunity to see bald eagles in their natural habitat. It was sometimes hard to hear the tour guide for the noise of the train echoing from the mountains but she was ever watchful for the eagles and reported them early enough for everyone to see

We rode the train for 3 hours in a car full of homeschoolers. It was a planned co-op event. Kids and adults all loved it. The guide told about different historic buildings and events along the route. Don't miss going to the open air car to see the eagles soaring above the train. Snacks available include coffee, hot chocolate and chili dogs....

We planned our trip to see the Fall colors along the river and mountains near Romney,W.Virginia. We had beautiful weather and many photo opportunities. One of the Potomac Eagle's claims to fame are seeing Bald Eagles along the train route and we were not disappointed. Even with a large group, we felt we had room to move around, staying in enclosed cars or taking advantage of two open air type cars which are great for photography. The staff was very efficient and the narration was very informative. It was an opportunity to see a new part of West Virginia.

Very nice three hour train trip with historic equipment through the South Branch Valley with beautiful scenery, historic buildings and ruins, and EAGLES.

Ride was 3 hrs. long. They told us local history about houses and lands we passed along the way. We did sight about 6 eagles along the way. This would not be a good trip for children , adults yes.

The weather was wonderful, but the best part was the eagles soaring through the "Trough"! Our historian on board added such great knowledge during the trip and the beauty of the changing leaves made this a trip to remember. I highly recommend this train ride to everyone. What a wonderful family experience!

On Sept. 20, 2014, I had the honor of riding one of the best train rides of my life. For 3 hours, wonderful staff and breath taking views, of the river, wildlife with bald eagles and some of the most beautiful hidden farm land I have ever seen made for a great day. I had opted to pay the extra to be first class in the club car and gosh it was well worth it. Wonderful food served by 3 generations of wonderful waitress's. It smelled great and tasted even better! I could not ask for a more friendly staff from the time we walked up to the ticket counter till we left the parking area, EVERYONE was super nice and you could tell enjoyed their jobs. All along the way the narration was great telling about the area and everything we passed. I would highly recommend this trip to any one that is looking for a nice get a way. It was almost 5 hours from my home but again well worth the money and the time. Oh and I cannot forget the neighbor's (almost Chessie colored cat) BOB. When the train stopped he came out to greet us near the engine and with a very friendly greeting just like he was part of the event...till his momma took him back home....lol Again, take the time to enjoy, relax and support this group and the history they are bringing to new generations.

The title of this railway is very well chosen. It chugs alongside the Potomac River and offer an opportunity to see Bald Eagles en route. Good views and narration and I observed 2 separate pairs of Eagles on the wing and a Juvenile sitting adjacent to its nest. There is not a lot to see at the Depot other than a small gift shop & museum but the ride is good and last for 3 hours

The Potomac Eagle Scenic Railroad was a great ride. We went through some very scenic areas and in one section we were able to see eagles nests and eagles flying around. We saw deer, rabbits and even a bobcat. We rode in the club car which was air conditioned and came with lunch and dinner service during the trip. It was great and we cannot wait to go again.

While most of the cars are enclosed they are not climate controlled, so be prepared. What was disappointing is after a two and one half hour ride the train stops in a very small town for just over an hour in what appears to be an attempt to stimulate the economy a the few shops located close to the stop.

I been there many years ago and keep having on mind one of my best memories, I was honored by travelling like 6 times during summer, Definitely tjhe best service, the best views, and extremly lovely people. David Corvitt was one of the men running the train, and he gave me always the best like a father. You will be able to see a bunch of eagles, deers, and the beautifull forest. Don´t hesitate and enjoy the trian..

We rode the train with our grandson ,and we never had a dull moment during the entire ride seeing lots of eagles and deer,a bear and even an osprey. The commentary on local history and the scenic views on the ride through the mountains and along the river were beautifula great photo opt. We rode in the open car for the ride through "The Trough" and had a great time. This is a very good value for the ride and they do offer snacks and a dining car but we opted to carry on our own snacks and drinks.
