We were staying locally and had Blackwater Falls on our list of attractions to visit while in the area. While the peak leaf season had already passed, it still was beautiful to see the falls. I never get tired of seeing natural attractions like this, and Blackwater Falls was no exception. We also drove thru the campground, along with the cabins they have for rent. Lots of wildlife - actually saw deer wandering thru the campground while we were driving thru. The cabins all appeared to be in good shape, at least from the exterior, and definitely were set in a somewhat remote location that will let you "unplug" for a weekend. Although we didn't stay at either the campground or the cabins during this visit - we all felt both locations would be great to stay at in a future visit!

What a lovely park and resort! Scenery abounds EVERY season of the year. The lodge offers nice rooms but bear in mind the lodge is older and the rooms are appropriate to when the lodge was built. I liked the idea you could actually open the windows and have fresh air come inside your room as opposed to the climate controlled rooms of today. Some may not care for that, but personally I love going to sleep to the sounds of the Blackwater River rushing down the canyon and crickets in the bushes outside. If you can manage it rent one of the cabins in the park. They are well-appointed and most comfortable. Be aware, though, you are in wild country. Deer abound and even the occasional black bear so keep your food covered and indoors and don't feed the wildlife. I cannot recommend a place more highly than the Blackwater Falls State Park and the lodge and cabins. You will not regret your visit!

The falls form ice sculptures in winter, but the 219 or so steps down to see it are treacherous and covered with snow and ice, so don't leave your walking stick or ski poles in the car.

If you are looking for a place to experience nature, delicious food and some incredible scenery, this is the place to go. The hotel is extremely rustic, but offers luxurious accommodations. The restaurant's fish tastes fresh caught. There is nature to experience everywhere and the black falls is one of the prettiest sites I've seen.

Very nice park and the Falls are amazing. You will want to be careful in the winter, but it is worth the 200 steps to the lower viewing platforms.

we have been twice as part of our winter/ski trips when the weather is less than favorable to ski. the waterfall is gorgeous, plenty of viewing spots, deck like path/stairs…only tip is when its been raining be very careful, my brother in law who was carrying my niece fell with her in his hands from the damp stairs covered in leaves and mud!

Beautiful views. Not a long walk, has also a handicap access. Visit the lodge also for more views. Hike Lindy Point Outlook for a quick 1.2 round trip and amazing views.

A beautiful area any time of year. Beautiful overlooks down the gorge, short hike to rock formations on the rim. And of course the falls!

Nice, clean place. You can park your vehicle in the parking and there is hardly 5 minutes hike to the Falls. You can start taking pictures as soon as you see the falls but the best pictures can be shot when you go all the way down. There is an easy access path that will take you pretty close to the falls. Fall itself is very beautiful. Not huge, but decent size, surrounded by rocks and some forest. Best time to visit is in fall, because the water turns black/dark brown because of the color of the falling leaves in fall, and hence the name: Blackwater Falls. Bring a tripod for your dslr if you want to take motion blur photos of the fall. About an hour or two should be good enough to explore the Falls and take pictures. If you have maybe a day or two extra, you can visit Coopers Rock, Ravens Rock and Dolly Sods. All these attractions are within an hour to hour and a half from each other. Hope this review helped! Please watch my pictures to get a better idea of the place. Thanks.

Beautiful falls and easy hike down to a spacious viewing area - well worth the drive. We went when it has just snowed and there were huge icicles hanging off of the falls. Just gorgeous!

The view of the Blackwater River Gorge from behind the lodge is really beautiful, especially in fall!

This is a large falls which has plenty of water going over it, very impressive. It is located near Davis, WV and not far from Canaan Valley State Park / Resort. There are about 200 steps and a short walkway down to the falls overlook, close enough to get some spray. We were there in early Nov and the only persons there in the late morning. This is a nice time of year for photos - in the spring / summer the place is constantly jammed. There is an overlook on the opposite side of the river with handicapped access. One of the largest and nicest falls in the eastern US.

Once again magnificent nature in our beautiful country !I am glad I made the effort to come see this park & these falls, The 1 regret is that I did not have more time to spend there, As one could take a nice hike also go see other falls & these falls from other stops on the road,If you are planning a trip anywhere near by in West Virginia for sure go, &/or if you need an excuse to visit West Virginia make this one :-) Enjoy !PS; Odd for such a place, but it did seem to have Handicap access.

This waterfall is absolutely gorgeous! The sound of it is so loud but yet soothing! It was a short hike down the trail some parts a little steep. We did see what looked like a little ferret cross our path as we were hiking down to the waterfall. There are several lookout sites on various levels to view the waterfall. The bathrooms were clean! My only negative is that the snack shop was closed and after a long drive a could've used a water or other beverage but there is a gas station near by. The drive was worth it to see this magnificent waterfall!
