Pretty drive and chance of seeing elk, big horn sheep & moose, to name just a few animals who make this area their home

This river is truly stunning. The water temp is cold, even in the summer, and the current is fast, but it's wild and wonderful, especially for us east-coasters. We skipped rocks, waded close to the shore line, and there are tons of pull-offs in which to park and stay for a while. Bring a bit of cash, as most pull-offs ask for a parking fee.

Could not find access to drive to a parking spot near the river based on information from the Montana Visitors Center. Folks in rafts and wading looked like they were enjoying the river and catching fish. Almost all were released.

I have fished this river for 20 years. I am not a “fly fisherman” I use a spinner. Don’t be intimidated by all the fly fisherman, most of them have no clue what they are doing. If you get the right set-up you will catch large fish all day on many areas of this river.

In an area that has many big rivers to float and fish is this river (East Gallatin) with a large number of trout throughout

What a lovely drive along the river through a canyon to West Yellowstone. There are many places to stop to have a picnic lunch. The scenery is just beautiful with the mountains in the backround.

No matter which you do, you won't regret it. The drive from Bozeman to West Yellowstone takes you along the river, through the North West corner of Yellowstone Park. Pull of the 191 in Big Sky, and wander around the community! While driving along the river, enjoy the beauty, but do everyone a favor, and use the pull outs. That way you can drive slow without enraging those in too much of a hurry to enjoy the view. Try to spot moose, elk and bighorn sheep along the way, and especially at dusk and at night, watch out for them! There are many whitewater rafting companies, and it is a great rover to raft. From what I hear, it is absolutely great for fishing as well.

A place of great beauty. The river changes constantly as you travel along its banks. We truly enjoyed our rafting trip down the river and highly recommend the experience.

The Gallatin River is a great drive to West Yellowstone. Very cool geothermal features. Some portions of the river were frozen and others were flowing with steam rising. Beautiful scenery.

Beautiful mountain stream offering fly fishing, rafting and kayaking.Located just outside Bozeman, Big Sky and West Yellowstone.

I fished in the middle of an extremely cold spell last November! These guys not only outfitted myself and my daughter but were willing to do whatever to make it an equitable and enjoyable day! That it was! We caught fish and had a guide that not only could fish but gave us a history lesson along the way!! Best choice in Big Sky area!!

It is a good river. Easily accessible. It is clean. There is usually a lot of people on it. The river has shuttles for tube-ers who don't bother to shuttle themselves.

We stayed high in Big Sky for a week and traveled up and down route 191 beside the river to Bozeman several times. We saw rafters, kayakers, and fishermen in the river every day. We also stopped several times to wade into wade into this fast-moving water. It is invigorating, and the air in the river canyon north of Yellowstone NP is clean and clear. We also hiked some trails near the river, and had great times.

We enjoyed stopping along the Gallatin River which was very full in July. It was wonderful to have a picnic, and hear the river roaring by. What a beautiful area of the country this is!

The trailhead is just off the Gallatin River...which is GORGEOUS and which I WILL be rafting down next trip. The hike is 6 miles round trip and pretty steep. The view at the top is so worth it. Coming from Florida, and this being my first hike, I did have to get used to the elevation a bit...but it's a beautiful hike and you'll want to stop and take pictures along the way for sure. I didn't see any bears...but bringing the bear spray and being knowledgeable is important. Saw a pica and a deer along the way. The sound of Lava creek along the way is a nice hiking soundtrack.. Highly recommend this hike.
