Gary Wilson gave a very thorough tour. Interesting remnant of the end of the US-Indian Wars of the late 180s.

My boyfriend grew up in Havre and had never been here. He said it closed like 100 years ago. It turns out there's a tour guide who is very animated and really makes the history come to life. Our tour was very thorough and he should really keep tours to 1 hour, but WOW, what a tour! Everyone in Montana needs to learn about Fort Assiniboine because it truly impacted the whole region. I especially liked that the guide didn't take sides and recognized that there were no clear good guys and bad guys--just lots of people struggling to survive and coexist. It's sad that the Assiniboine people never got any of their land back. I was totally blown away that General Pershing had his cavalry command here--there's some amazing trivia. I also wonder that Horace Bivans never got a Medal of Honor, he was an amazing soldier.
