This was a very worthwhile stop. We arrived in Van Lear and stopped at the Webb Country Store to inquire about a tour, and was given directions to get to the house. Roads are paved, except for the driveway. The roads are very very narrow in places, so use caution traveling to Butcher Hollow. Once we reached the house, parking was very close to the porch steps. The home sets on the side of a hill, it takes you back to another era. As I approached the porch, there was an older gentlemen who welcomed me, he was Loretta's brother Herman. The tour costs $5 per person and was given by Herman, we couldn't have asked for a better tour guide. The home is very small, a front room, bedroom, and kitchen. Most of the furniture that is in the home is original, the few pieces that aren't Herman told us where they came from. If you are a Loretta Lynn fan, then this is a must stop location. We walked through the home with Herman and then I went back through again to take pictures. It was a very good visit!

I recently saw "Coal Miner's Daughter, " one of my favorite movies, and realized that Lynn's birthplace is open for tours. We made the 8 hour trek to Kentucky and are so glad we did. This was one of the most memorable tours we've ever taken. Loretta's brother, Herman, guides you through the house while reminiscing at every turn. We learned so much about life back in the heydey of the Van Lear coal mine. The furnishings are all original to the family and the house. By all means, go visit. This is a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

I wish that everyone had a place like this for us to go through, but there aren't many people like Loretta and her sisters, she is a remarkable woman but then again she is a good old hillbilly gal

We were fortunate to have Herman Webb, Loretta Lynn's brother, show us through their childhood home and give us a commentary of what life was like growing up there. Herman was quite entertaining. About a mile up the road from Webb's General Store I saw an older gentleman sitting on his porch so I stopped to ask directions. It turned out that this man was Herman & Loretta's cousin, so I had an interesting conversation with him. If you have any interest in history and/or country music, this is definitely worth you while.

One visit to the homeplace will be all you need. Its pretty well taken care of by her brother, who runs the store near-by. You have to stop in the store and "collect" him so he can give you the tour. Not like what you saw on the movie.

My husband and I visited this location together and really enjoyed it, We thought it was amazing how small the house was and how many children they raised there. I enjoy hearing both Loretta and Crystal but my husband lovesssss Crystal Gayle.

Visit a true landmark! Loretta Lynn's homeplace is an actual cabin that she grew up in located in the beautiful Kentucky hills. You get to tour her home just as it was when she was a child. Visit the family owned store and get a tour from her very own brother!!!

We've been three times over five years (five hour drive for us) and loved it each time. Where else can you sit on the porch, pick and sing with Loretta's brother Herman? You have to work to get there, but that's half the charm. He's great....and real.

What a wonderful experience. Twelve-fourteen years ago my family and I went to Tennessee for our summer vacation and on the way we stopped at Loretta Lynns ranch for horse back riding. We were surprised by being met with her daughter in law, and her grandson who lead us on the trail. Later a black bronco pulled beside us which Dew was driving while Loretta talked to all of us! It was such a great feeling at how down to earth they all are considering they are well known. What wonderful people.

This was a great experence for me, seeing the roots of the great Loretta lynn. first we met her brother and went horse back riding with him as he told us stories about here. Then we rented ATV's as we combed the country side. after that we decided to take a look at the pig farm where she worked as a kid and talked to the same owner that was at one time her boss. all in all it is a great experence to enjoy from the people to the food it will all be worth it. P.S. (dont forget to ride the train up the hill)
